This may sound like a weird question...
« Topic Start: October 31, 2011, 06:03:55 AM »
I was browsing reddit and came across an "AskReddit" question that surprised me.  "Men and Women of Reddit, How often do you wash your jeans?"

So, how many of you wear jeans and if you do, how often do you wash them?

The jeans I wore this weekend have mustard stains on them from the 9/6 Strasmas II game.

Twice and than wash although there are exceptions for stains or light use.

Jeans should be washed at least once per decade, more often if they have been worn in a really filthy place like Foggy Bottom.

I read somewhere that from a microbial/germ standpoint, jeans are about as dirty as they're going to get after being worn twice.

When the gasoline smell from wiping my hands on my jeans after motorcycle fillups causes light headedness.

Huh.  I never knew that.  I mean, I would think they would start to smell bad.  I usually go 2 days maybe 3.  Reddit says that if they start to smell funky, they put them in the freezer overnight which kills off the bacteria and the don't stink the next day.  Some people go 6 months or more

A comfy pair of jeans are hard to find.

Why lose it by washing them?

I believe they use a plastic bag, not just throwing them in there.

my comfy jeans are my yard work jeans- my wife would probably kill me if I kept putting them back in the dresser after each wear, besides they get softer with each wash. As far as longevity goes, they are a pair of massively over priced J-Crew jeans from a decade ago, so washing didn't seem to hurt them too much

I might go a week if they are jeans I change into after work to sit and watch TV. If I wear them on the weekend, they get worn once, then washed.

In my younger days, there were times the jeans would have been in danger from the food.    :)

Still disgusting.

Why would you do that instead of washing them?

I wash mine after one wear.

That seems a bit excessive.

Once a week of regular wear seems about right to me.

About 1 - 2x a month.  Being a condo guy, not much yard work.  Dust and crud spilled on them are the main issue.  If I get soaked with a beer, that is a good excuse. Jeans usually succumb to embarassing worn out spots.  I have golden oldies that aren't too badly worn that I pull out as backups when my main pair is due for a wash.

In all seriousness, I go about a week of wear before washing unless they get a stain.

Because washing wears them out quicker and can alter the fit.  Also, people that buy dry denim want to go as long as possible for the best look when they do wash.

Just bought 3 pairs of new jeans.  All yet to be washed.  Probably within the week, though.

Gotcha.

Still sounds gross, though.
