Are you seriously comparing a phone with a 1080p screen and a phone with an 800x480 screen? :|

No.  I'm comparing the price.  The 5c is supposed to be the low end phone.  The Lumia 52x is precisely what it's supposed to be for precisely the right price.

and the Nexus 5 is a high end phone, the point is the Nexus comes in cheaper than apple's repackaged left overs

I don't see the 5c as cheap or low end.  It's just a slightly less expensive offering with lots of color options.  You or I may laugh, but that's a big deal to a lot of people.

it's last year's phone with a plastic shell (the thing that apple used to deride about android phones' construction).

Shrug, that doesn't make it low end, and it's certainly not comparable to the budget model PC mentioned.

it makes if a competitor of the SG3 which you can get for under $500 unlocked (personally I think the screen size makes it low end almost by definition at this point, but that's just me)

Wish they had kept making a 4" version. I have a tablet.  5" seems too big to fit in pocket comfortably.

The phone will be "always listening" for the trigger phrase "OK Google" in 4.4.

We don't get 4.4 :'(

I'm really thinking I'm going to get a Nexus 5 for $349 unlocked and an AT&T sim for walmart's Straight Talk $45/month unlimited plan.

Shrug, as if it isn't going to be in a CM nightly by this time next month.  I have my N7 for playing around with the stock version.

EDIT - besides, play store currently has "leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks" for the 16GB version, and "2-3 weeks" for the 32 GB.  No rush.

Oh, I'm not going to go for a Nexus 5 right this minute, it'll be a month or two at least.  I'm just getting a bit down on the GNex's horrible lag and general crashyness lately, though a buddy at work swears his still flys around like when it was new, so maybe it's just my phone.

Running said ROM and it's absolutely perfect in every way... apart from the 3 hard crashes since I flashed it 5 hours ago.  And I was only using it for 3 of those hours

Back to cm10.2 note that they have an M1 release out, at least until they start a 10.3 release or the aosp one gets polished up a bit.

Other than the stability issues, the rest of the phone is absolutely blazing now.  The free ram, which I used to be nearly nothing, is idling around 300 MB now.  I have no idea why Google EoL'd the GNex, it can certainly run 4.4 fine.

so the Galaxy S3 Mini can be gotten for free with a new contract.

is it worth getting at this point, or is it too outdated?

Really? I thought updates so long as the hardware can handle it was a huge part of the Nexus appeal?

You must have Nathan and I on ignore.

Also:

Quote
Sources "close to the company" told Engadget that the problem stems from the Texas Instruments chipset built into the Nexus. TI has since exited the mobile device chipmaking business, laying off many of its workers. As such, the company likely wouldn't be able to lend a hand in supporting upgrades for the phone.

Makes sense I guess.  Again, quality community ROMs will be available before long anyway, and Verizon still hasn't even released 4.3 for their version of the GNex, so...  yeah, just part of the Android life.

TI doing noting doesn't preclude Google. KitKat was supposed to be less hardware intensive to encourage more upgrading- kind of ironic that they left behind one of their flagships

What does ROM stand for (in this case)? It's not evident from reading that brief article, or I wouldn't ask.

"OTA-like" community 4.4 ROM for VZW Galaxy Nexus:

So it stands for what I thought it stood for, but with a different inflection. :)

15,700 signatures as of this post.  Seems like there are still a lot of people that want to keep using their GNex with the latest OS.  Not a big deal to me since there will be community ROMs anyway.

the point is that there shouldn't have to be

If I had one, I think I'd try and return it (they're still advertising Nexus phones as the first to get any updates without any fine print- https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_5_white_32gb)
