Erik Arnesen

Went to the game in Harrisburg tonight to discover Arnesen has a 1.9 ERA and overall great numbers.. I'm somewhat new to the fanbase, what's the deal with him? Any chance of making it to the bigs one day?

Doubtful. Middle reliever at best.

He's bounced between AA and AAA for a while now.

Had a little hope a few years ago to be a #5 but he tailed off.

He's what 27 now? He's been pretty good this year in AA. Had a brief stint in AAA where he wasn't too terrible. But at 27 I don't think he's going to be busting down the door over some of our younger prospects.

He pitched a gem tonight:
7.0   4H   1R   0ER   0BB   10K

2.22 over his last 10 starts (67K/12BB) and has gone at least 7 in his last 4.  Do we have something here?

No.

Unless you mean a future as a middle reliever at best.

He just doesn't throw all that hard. But he's certainly having a solid season in AA.

Actually, that would be something, a good middle reliever.

Of course, he's still at AA and he's 27, older than John Lannan and Lannan's been in the majors for four years.  That's not encouraging.

he went up to AAA and then came back down, but i'm not sure why.  His 2 starts at Syracuse were ok.   17IP, 15K, 3BB, 3.57 / 1.415.

The WHIP is high.  I'm guessing he came up as an injury replacement then got sent back?

Daughter and I saw this game. Yes, go to Harrisburg: the park is a gem, sitting in a park on an island in the middle of the Susquehanna. Great views, inexpensive seats...paid $13 each for two seats in second row behind the visitors' dugout.

Arnesen is a big guy (260 pounds?) who rarely hits 90 mph. Mostly 88 mph fastball and 80 mph curve. Erie hit him solidly, but the Harrisburg fielding was dismal. Several hard-hit balls that could have been outs. A long triple to CF that Komatsu could not get to...had to run it down from behind. Either Komatsu was playing too shallow, or he isn't fast enough to play CF. Close game, 1 - 0 Erie until a home-run. And Harrisburg wasn't hitting anything.

Arnesen was not terrible. Up close, an 88 mph fastball looks overpowering. Lots of misses on his breaking ball which dives into the dirt.

Overall impression, though, is that the Senators cannot field a bit. Had at least four errors in addition to plays they could have made with more hustle.

Did not see Derek Norris. Ivany, the other catcher, does not have an impressive arm.

Nice chat with the team store clerk who added to the "legends of Bryce Harper". She said, "You watch him play the OF and it's pure athleticism as he tracks a ball. No fear of the wall...he just goes for ball. And he hit one over [this notable marker] and [that notable spot] way out into the field where we set of fire-works. I'm not sure anyone has ever hit one there".

Arnesen? No. I'd say AA is as high as he will go.

Arneson finished 3rd in eastern league pitcher of the year voting.  Peacock wins.
