opponent matters so much in attendance figures, so those stats don't really impress me to much.  If this years O's series had 38% more attendance than last years O's series, and  this years Red's series to last years Red's series had a similar increase and so on, then I might be impressed.  Of course this method has flaws too (weekend versus weekday, weather conditions, month of the season, etc.).

My own opinion, our attendance has been pretty bad so far, the numbers just look good b/c we have already had home weekend series against the O's and Phillies.

These things even out as the year goes along. But make no mistake about it. The numbers will jump because the STH base is larger than any year since 2008, according to Feffer. Don't know how much larger...and, oh, the team is much better since any team since it's been here in DC.

sure they even out as the year goes along, but they don't 23 home games into the year.

look again at post #64.  There are no Os games from 2011 on that list, and this year, there were 3 that made the top 24, and 2 in the top 5.  That is impressive.  The Reds game was one of the better ODs (best, other than Phils 2010).  We have not had our top interleague draw yet.  those Red sox games from 2009 were midweek.  We should top some of those for NYY pretty easily if the ticket policy opens up standing room like we did for the top game v. Philly.

All is said and done, it is a lock that this club nearly doubles the next best year for the number of 35K+ crowds at Nats Park.

There was a little less than a 13% increase in attendance for the O's series this year to last year (last year also a weekend series).  Gotta factor in that the O's are a way better team this year, and so probably attracted a bunch more O's fans this year than last year (that hypothesis seems to hold up when we note a small increase in Friday night's attendance between the two series, but a larger jump Sat/Sun when it is easier for people to make it down from Baltimore).

Like I said, on closer look there are reasons to not be that excited by what the fans have done so far this year.  Less than 20k fans on Monday against the Padres for example.  I want 35k+ crowds every night!

So would many of us...but that Padres match was played against rain and 67-degree temperature on a weeknight (never underestimate the weather-wussiness of this area). Rainy days and Mondays always get the attendance down.

Last season the Nats were 20th in MLB in average attendance...this season to date they are 17th. If the team keeps winning, people will come.

Mark Zuckerman ‏@MarkZuckerman
#Nats attendance now up 38% from last year at this point, roughly 8,000 per game. Only #MLB teams with higher increase: #Marlins, #Tigers.

Not sure how Mr Zuckerman is doing his math, but 2012 YTD average attendance is 27,331 vs 2011 through 23 games of 21,285, an increase of 28.4%.

I noticed that ushers are now asking people to wait between ABs before going down the aisles. Great idea. They do that at other ballparks around MLB. In San Diego, the ushers actually have these cute little signs.

Perhaps this will get some fans to become aware of when they get up from their seats, standing in the aisles, etc.

They didn't do this in section 309 on Saturday night.  I was constantly annoyed by people coming and going in the middle of an at bat.

It seems very inconsistantly enforced. I wish they would enforce it more consistantly.

Yes, I think it was inconsistent. I am very much in favor of this. The constant getting up and down is really annoying since we have aisle seats.

I was surprised that people were not annoyed by being forced to wait. They seemed to get it.

I must have gone up to four or five ushers over the Friday and Sunday games and thanked them for doing this.

Tell them that other ushers are doing it and you would appreciate it if they followed suit.

MDS and I talked smack over the winter about making a bet re attendance increase. I was willing to wager 20% plus increase. We didn't make the bet. Can't remember why.

So Zuckerman has the old 2 v 3 confusion.  Uncle Charlie v. the slide piece.

Yes. I think that's what it was. I should have done it. I think they have a good chance of a 20% increase.

Now I remember why we didn't make the bet. No. It's too complicated for me. I'm not that smart.

It hasn't really been enforced in the 312/313 aisle - but then again it isn't anywhere nearly as bad as Capitals or (especially) Wizards matches in the Phone Booth 400's.

They should announce it repeatedly on the PA system. It wouldn't take long for folks to understand the etiquette. Most are just clueless, not truly obnoxious.

That did such wonders for "Walk to the Left" on Metro. :?

While in some senses it wouldn't surprise me if some people were that stupid, it is hard to believe people lack such basic knowledge. It is sports 101 and largely the same set of rules for nearly any other public event you go to watch.

Going to a football game and yelling while your team is on offense is lack of basic fan knowledge.  Standing in front of people during the middle of a baseball game is obnoxious.

I bet 80% of the fanbase doesn't know these basic rules. You overestimate the intelligence of the American public. You need to hit them over the head.
