Nationals @ Phillies, Game 2
« Topic Start: July 25, 2007, 05:48:26 PM »

Game Time: 7:05 ET

Cole Hamels
11-5, 3.69 ERA

Matt Chico
4-6, 4.65 ERA

(SS) Jimmy Rollins
(RF) Shane Victorino
(2B) Chase Utley
(1B) Ryan Howard
(CF) Aaron Rowand
(LF) Pat Burrell
(3B) Wes Helms
(SC) Carlos Ruiz
(SP) Cole Hamels

Felipe Lopez (SS)
Ronnie Belliard (2B)
Ryan Zimmerman (3B)
Dmitri Young (1B)
Austin Kearns (RF)
Ryan Church (LF)
Brian Schneider (SC)
Nook Logan (CF)
Matt Chico (SP)
________________________________________________

In his last start, Chico made two costly mistakes against the Rockies, yielding two-run homers to Troy Tulowitzki and Garrett Atkins. Chico lasted six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. He didn't figure in the decision, however, as the Nationals won the game, 5-4.

Hamels probably figured he had pitched well enough last time out to beat his hometown team. He held the Padres to one run on two hits over six innings. But he left with a one-run deficit, which proved too much for the Phillies to overcome, as Hamels was outpitched by All-Star teammate Chris Young. Hamels, whose season-high in strikeouts is 15, followed up a two-strikeout performance against the Cardinals by fanning just two Padres. The 23-year-old lost his only previous start against the Nationals this season, giving up four runs over 5 1/3 innings.

I'd like to see a pitcher's duel tonight, despite the venue.  It's their most reliable starter vs. ours; this should be tough, since Hamels has owned us historically.

We saw a pitcher's duel last night although it wasn't just 1 guy for either team.  I'd prefer to see our pitching keep up the good work (11 runs given up over the last 5 games) and for our offense to score more than 5+ runs.

Don't forget that they hammered Hamels earlier in the season.

It's hard to believe how well Utley's doing.

Why... do you not think he has a high degree of talent?

I'm pretty excited about Lannan starting tomorrow. Nice to give the Phillies (and us!) a different look.

Leading the league in BA at home is Utley with .392; Dmitri is second with .391.

And now Dmitri leads the league as Utley makes an out.

I'm always fascinated by his powerful swing which looks like a half-swing, or a tennis shot.

It's more his size and the fact that he had that #2 role for so long. Those numbers are beyond what I thought he could put up.

Marerro #1 prospect in all of baseball? really?  Anyways, I completely agree with what Carp is saying about Kearns, Lopez, and Church.
