:smh: @ the announcers.  The protest is symbolic, I'm sure Fredi doesn't expect it to actually accomplish anything.

I read that the fat walrus of an umpire, Joe West, will be the crew chief of the Nats series.

If you go by the letter of the rule, it should be called an infield fly.

God I love the internet.

Like I said I wouldn't make that call. but I believe the umpires got the rules technically correct according to the rule book.

Also for chastising the fans for ten minutes when they could have been talking about the most controversial moment of the season.

Not it's not.  There's nothing ordinary about the effort it takes an infielder to travel that far onto the outfield grass.

People should be getting ejected for throwing crap onto the field.

There's a much neater way for Barves supporters to throw crap on the field anyway - just have them run onto the field themselves.

From the ESPN.com match tracker: 'THE GAME IS BEING DELAYED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH INNING DUE TO DEBRIS ON THE FIELD.'

Can they call a game on account of fan behavior?  Oh man if that's done, that place will go nuts!

The final Senators game was forfeited because of debris and fans on the field.

If they ever call a playoff game game for fans behavior,  how long until opposing fans start going to games in home town gear trying to get a win for their team

So what does it mean when a game is played under protest? What does the "protest" sign look like?

Could they postpone the game to tomorrow to get those fans out of there in the heat of the moment!

I guess knorr. My interpretation of the rules makes me think they do have some leeway to call it an out.

Yes. They could even order an evacuation and then play the game with no fans

This is going to get the same kind of press that that Whitesox/Angels strikeout did back in '05 or whenever it was.
