He'd be in the top three anyway.

Look, it doesn't matter. The truth is that if we had Greinke and we were arguing over who our best pitcher was, that would be like going to Switzerland and arguing about which chocolate is the tastiest.

Fair enough!

who's to say they still can't get a SP.

that's the problem with some people on here, it's always just one thing and they are satisfied.  get greedy, we're the washington nationals damnit.  let's get lots of toys not just one.  let's not settle for winning NL East.  let's win the whole damn thing.

Meh, whatever.  I want to win the whole thing as much as anyone, but we had the best offense in baseball after the break and the best rotation the whole year.  We're set up to win as much as anyone with what we've got right now.  We can sell the farm for Upton or even Price, but frankly, we really don't need to, especially if they get LaRoche back.  We've seen that having a ton of stars doesn't bring you any guarantees in the past few years.  Trade for needs, not toys.  Upton isn't a need.

Grienke displaces everyone in the rotation not named Strasburg.

I'm pretty sure that Gonzalez, Zimmermann, and Detwiler will all remain in the rotation.

And I would learn how to spell his name.   :mg:

Hey, I wanted Cerebral1 to understand who I was talking about, so I adopted his spelling.

Looser.

Sure would. They'd be 3/4/5.

Sorry there is no way I'd give Burnett a 4 year deal.  3 years and 12 mil is about the most I'd give him.  Maybe not even that much.

If it takes more than that, just bring back Gorz as the lefty specialist for one year.

Jesus, four years? I wouldn't do that for Burnett. Three years is fine I guess but it would make me uneasy. He was effective but his velocity worries me a bit.

2 years max for a lefty specialist,  I wouldn't give a closer 4 years

Not sure what you mean, I quoted Cerebral1 first, and you responded to my comments.

My point is that if we sign Greinke, whoever would be the #5 is off the roster, and that's a significant upgrade.  I don't really get hung up on the order in which our 5 guys start, it's a subject of such incredible angst and yet means so little.

Four years would set a new precedent for eighth inning type guys. Three years, $15 million is the standard contract for elite eighth inning relievers, as has been established by guys like Brandon Lyon, Scott Downs, Matt Geurrier, and Jesse Crain. That is the maximum that Burnett should get.

i'd go 3/12  on burnett max, but i'd much rather offer him a 2 year deal and see just how much he wants to stay a nat.  JP Howell could be another option who could come a lot cheaper on the FA market.

he's not an elite 8th inning guy, the only reason he pitched there last year was Storen's injury- he's a 7th inning guy or a left specialist depending on your view- he's not worth a long term commitment

Sheesh, he's not an elite reliever. I don't mind not re-signing him at all. We need to rebuild the pen, the one last year was not good enough.

I like him fine but agree with you.   :spaz:

We can sign comparable for less, or even upgrade perhaps.  I would feel better if they'd go ahead and sign Mike G for another year.

There's no way Rizzo gives Burnett four years.  Clip maybe but not Burnett

Adam Laroche is still the deciding factor this off-season. I wonder if Rizzo has two plans and is just working through the GMs and letting that decide what happens withLaroche.

new prediction:
- LaRoche walks
- Zimm moves to 1st
- Rendon breaks camp with the team at 3rd
- Morse is dealt for a reliever or SP prospect
- We sign Bourn to a 4 year deal
- We sign Greinke to a 4 year deal as well

Next year we open with:.
1. Bourn
2. Werth
3. Zimm
4. Harper
5. Desmond
6. Espinosa
7. Ramos
8. Espinosa

with a rotation of Strasburg/Gio/JZ/RD, and Greinke

Add a quality LH arm to the pen and maybe one more vet (Masdon?) and we're golden.

highly unlikely that greinke will take a 4 year deal and I doubt that zimm will move to first for at least a season or two.

Why on earth would Greinke sign a four year deal (Unless you pay him 35 Million a year)? Or Bourn for that matter. Also there's no way in hell Davey moves Zimmerman off third.
