It does seem strange that they assume we extended Span in order to bench Werth, while also assuming Brian Goodwin is good enough to play everyday.

Baseball America is big on the new trend of fielding two CF in your outfield!

2016 Houston Astros
LF Grady Sizemore
CF Juan Pierre

Yeah, that is a bizarre conclusion. I also think it's weird of them to assume Lucas Giolito will be a #2 starter, full-time, after just two years of playing in our system (after losing 2013 to TJ). That's a Strasburg-esque rate of development.

One thing that BA does when they project your 2016 lineup is that they assume that you resign/keep your own players and they don't give you any free agents. Also, they love pitching prospects.

Where did you see their 2016 Astros lineup? Pretty sure that it's not out, and they wouldn't put Pierre or Sizemore on the Astros, in any case...

Right.  Things change.  More so if the team was in a horrible state as it was in 2009.  I think things will change by 2016, but not as drastically as the reality of 2012 compared to the prediction of 2012.

he's that good.

he was regarded as extremely polished for a high school arm while still having tremendous upside.  According to BA, he has the best fastball and curveball in the system.

That means he will go from Rookie A ball to MLB in two seasons. I don't think he's that good.

he touches 100, has a plus-plus curve, above average changeup, and good command.

2013 - rehab
2014 - low-A to high-a
2015 - AA
2016 - AAA to maybe a September call-up

If he dominates at AA in 2015 maybe he accelerates the timetable?

I think the lineup that Baseball America posted for 2016 could very close to what we actually see takes the field then with a few minor changes. I don't think Span will be extended and Goodwin will play CF, I think the only big move would be eating a ton of money trading Werth to an AL team as a high OBP and high average player and Tyler Moore is still around. I think Zimmermann and Detwiler both sign team friendly extensions (not likely) and Giolito is the 5th starter. So it will look like this barring any trades (besides Werth) or FA signings.

CF Brian Goodwin
3B Anthony Rendon
1B Ryan Zimmerman
RF Bryce Harper
SS Ian Desmond
LF Tyler Moore
2B Danny Espinosa
C Wilson Ramos

P Stephen Strasburg
P Gio Gonzalez
P Jordan Zimmermann
P Ross Detwiler
P Lucas Giolito

CL Drew Storen

A completely homegrown team from either trading prospects or bringing them up that hopefully has won 2-3 world series by then. Offseason Dreams... It will at least be my team in MLB the show 2013 in the 2016 season  8)

Just got back stateside a few days ago, going to be a few weeks before I have anything substantial to post.  A lot of guys took some big steps this year though, still loving the depth of the system.  Man, I missed this place.

I wonder when Det and Gio will go under the knife so we can have an all TJ starting rotation.

The pitching staff isn't necessarily bad... If Scott Olsen stayed true to form and Bally didn't suck after a few innings. lol

That lineup is crap... much like our team was then.

They'd have had to rely pretty heavily on their pitching to win the Carolina League's pennant
