Gentlemen, we've all seen how things can fall apart for the Nats even when it seems like it's in the bag (three words: Ken Griffey Junior), but I have to say that we're looking good tonight.  Production from every part of the order, unbeatable pitching so far from Livo (plus a nice bunt), knocking the Dodger's starter out, Royce Clayton hitting an RBI (!), two Fonzie doubles AND another outfield assist (and this time it's all him, no contributing error that made it possible), Zimmerman making me love him even more....

....all of a sudden I feel kinda nice about this club.  We're not going to compete in any pennant races, but maybe we won't humiliate ourselves.  Unfortunately, we're going to most likely lose Fonzie before the trading deadline, so things could get worse after that.

Maybe he'd just get complacent if he's not playing for a contract, though...I dunno.  I'd love to see him re-signed - he's completely won me over after the spring training soap opera - but I just don't think we're going to do it.

SCHNEIDER IS BACK!  2 for 3.

Looks like a nice rest is just what Schneidy needed.  He's been on the ball tonight!

Oh no!  Furcal gets the first honest base hit of the game!

Still, let's get these next two guys out, okay?

So what do you guys think?  Leave Livan in as long as he's not giving up runs, or play it "safe" and bring in the bullpen after the 7th (but risk disrupting the flow and giving the LADs a chance to get back into it)?

FR clearly respects Livan immensely, and Livo's a proven workhorse.  Seeing as how he's only got 81 pitches so far and a shutout with a huge lead, FR is doubtless going to leave him in until gets into real trouble, which means giving up at least a run or two.  And that's the right move.  If Livan can make the 7th economical, he's got a decent shot at a CG.

leave him in...he needs the confidence and so does the team.  He used to go all the way to the eighth.  Let see if he can return to his old form for at least one game.   :)

Livan was jinxed when Chief said "I'm not gonna say anything."
For jinx purposes, that's the same as saying it.

True.  Better me than someone else who would've been less subtle about it I guess

You know according to Chaos theory, it's entirely possible that the superstitious things we do (or don't do) could affect the outcome of the game, especially considering how close most of us are to DC ;)

And it's ADIOS, J.D.!  Keep on chuggin' Livan.  Four Ks tonight, and all of them called.  That says something, though I'm not sure what.

EDIT: and Jeff Kent gets a single.  Well, at least he's not giving them up to chumps.  Let's get a DP.

Nicely done, Livan.  One more to go, and you're in the 8th inning.

If this turns into one of those games where we cruise through the first 6 or 7 innings and then blow it all at the end, so help me...

Frank seems to follow pitch count and Livan's at 101.  If he can finish and stay under 120, I think Frank will finally let him finish.

BTW, I found out that the Hooters in Rockville airs ALL the Nationals game.  The waitresses, uh, compete with your attention span.
