When SF's mom read him books at night she read the alternative versions.

The Little Blue Engine
                  by Shel Silverstein

The little blue engine looked up at the hill.
His light was weak, his whistle was shrill.
He was tired and small, and the hill was tall,
And his face blushed red as he softly said,
“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.”

So he started up with a chug and a strain,
And he puffed and pulled with might and main.
And slowly he climbed, a foot at a time,
And his engine coughed as he whispered soft,
“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.”

With a squeak and a creak and a toot and a sigh,
With an extra hope and an extra try,
He would not stop — now he neared the top —
And strong and proud he cried out loud,
“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!”

He was almost there, when — CRASH! SMASH! BASH!
He slid down and mashed into engine hash
On the rocks below... which goes to show
If the track is tough and the hill is rough,
THINKING you can just ain’t enough!

Gio is not beating Alex Wood on national TV.

Tonight's game is the most winnable.

Alex Wood is the worst starter in the Braves rotation.  He's absolutely AWFUL!

He's worse than Harang and that's quite an accomplishment.

I think you are thinking of Minor.

Are you talking about the Alex Wood with a 3.20 ERA, 3.39 FIP, 3.33 xFIP, and strikeout per inning average?

13 IP 2 ER over his last 2 starts.

I'd much rather face Santana and Harang. They are both beatable IMO.

Atlanta's big losing streak was all on a tough road trip.  I don't necessarily buy that they are suddenly the worst team in the NL.  They are a winning team, and this is a tough series for us on the road.  I hope the Nats win a couple and getting swept would be a pretty big disappointment, but if we go in there and lose a couple, it doesn't make the Nats the chokers everyone is trying to make them out to be.

B.J. Upton is worse than Danny Espinosa. $75M keeps you in the lineup. Fredi bats him leadoff, which I would classify as a rookie manager mistake. If he did it once.

  doubleheaders?
Shouldn't we get 2 games for every time we beat the most hated team in baseball (at least, for self-respecting Nats fan)?

Here's to the Nats getting their crap together against the braves and steamrolling their asses.

Why, the Barves series of course (Me thinks TF is pulling our collective legs).    He may be referencing the long running joke in other threads from the gloomers and doomers.    Somebody wrote (when we were up by 2 games and 3 or more in the loss column) that we'd never catch the Barves for the NL East.    I believe this is TF's variation of the theme.     He forgot this   ---->   :)

Thanks Mitlen!  I've been pretty nauseated by the continued doom and gloomers on this site.  Even sitting in first place, people act like we are the fish or something.  I guess people prefer nagging over enjoying success however it may come.

When we get done with them this weekend they will be like the staggering sailors in The Tempest.

"O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't."

Well, considering it's a torrential downpour there right now and it's supposed to continue the rest of the day...

Fredi has BJ leading off. Why doesn't one of the reporters correct him?
