Pujols to Angels, 10 yrs, $250-260M
« Topic Start: December 08, 2011, 09:59:57 AM »
According to Yahoo and MLBTR.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/angels-to-sign-albert-pujols.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

The Angels are the bridesmaid no more.  Albert Pujols will sign with the Angels for ten years and $250-260MM, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown.  He'll receive a full no-trade clause.  Pujols decided this morning, writes Brown.  If Pujols received more than $252MM, his new deal will be the second-largest in baseball history in both its total and average annual value.

Why is anyone surprised at the years/money?

Or are your reactions shock at the fact that he's not staying in St. Louis?

I'm just glad he's out of our division and out of our league.

I didn't expect St Louis to resign him (I think they are too shrewd, and their franchise isn't dependent on one player), he got about $30 million more than I thought

Shocked that it is not St. Louis.

What must the Cards fanbase be thinking.

Maybe he's not dead in STL afterall.  ESPN says the final STL offer was for 9 years at less than $200 million, making him the 4th highest paid 1B.  The two sides were never close.  If that's the case, STL fans are going to blame management, not Pujols.

The Cards were stretching the act as far as they could.

I can't imagine what STL was thinking, not only does this create a lot of ill-will with the fans, but they just blew a hole in their line-up a mile wide.  Holliday, Frees and Berkman aren't going to carry the offense.  I wonder if they go after Fielder now?

WHOAAAAAAAAAA!!!  Didn't see that one coming.  So basically, he can be their DH after he decides to give up 1st base.  Anywho, We don't have to worry about him in the NL with us now.  See ya Albert!! have fun Big Guy!!

I'm just shocked St. Louis couldn't get this done.

What a shock...the talking heads were wrong once again.
Is there really a point in calling someone a baseball "insider?"

This huge transaction is going to kick us Nats fans even more in the nuts. The Angels aren't going to open their pockets for Wilson after this, so most likely he's going to swim with the Fishes.

The Cards have to be swimming in money after the WS win. Don't understand why they wouldn't go all in on Pujols.

BTW, Anyone know what they get as compensation?

It's been said that the Angels want to get Wilson TOO.  After this coup, I'm not doubting them at all.

most of the talking heads are used to football where players have so little leverage that a team that wants to 'get it done' can. In baseball and basketball, when a guy is a free agent or in the last year of a contract 'geting it done' isn't always possible

MLB radio said Wilson is begging to be signed by Angels for less than what he was asking so he can play in California and and with that roster.

If true, his agent must want to crucify him.

Now, time for Rizzo / The lerners to give Zimmn about 7-8 years - $175-$180 MM right NOW.  After that, start thinking about Strasburg. (edit)

Not that Rizzo is looking at either of them.
