I'd like to know who made the call. I mean has even thrown a freaking change-up all night until then?

we probably weren't going to win anyways because we weren't going to shut them out but giving up 3 runs there with 2 outs to a bad hitter hurts.

maybe it was your boy nieves?

If you take that approach you'll find yourself with 140 losses at the end of the season.  :?

I'd take a 140-loss season if I can get a WS within the following 3 years, but what I'd hate is being the Pittsburgh Pirates for the next 15 years.

Stammen was pitching well but he just gave up an inexcusable two out 3-Run shot. you can't just ignore that.

although it would be nice for our young pitchers to get some runs of support from time to time. it's so pathetic. they are always pitching with only 0-2 runs of support.

if zimmerman doesn't strike out twice and nieves doesn't ground into double play who knows.  i'm not calling you out, i'm just saying.

Amazingly, Manny actually fielded the correct OF.

I was trying to find your post, to the effect of "what are the odds Manny sits Dunn and plays Willingham, Harris and Dukes tonight?"

I think it got deleted in the maintenance faux pas.

Lester will cruise from here. the offense is done for the night.

Fine, so you can now switch the channel and Watch Wipeout and then I Survived a Japanese Game Show.  You can read the rest of the Gameday Thread after the game is over.

How could you have possibly been enjoying a close game? I thought you only liked blowouts? Are you hoping the Red Sox pound our pitching for another 6 runs to make it a blowout?

Olsen looks crappy. only allowed 2 runs so far but he is so utterly hittable. A ML team would have 10 hits and 5+ runs off him by now.

his line so far: 4 IP 7 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 2 K (52 pitches, 40 strikes).

I'll reserve judgement until I see him pitch in real games. Minor league numbers for these guys are pretty much meaningless. We have no idea what they are working on. We shouldn't rush him back like Biemel, and he'll need a couple of starts to see how he is really pitching. But we have to see an improvement on what he was doing before. This organization should not feel a need to commit to yet another loser simply because the Lerners are too cheap to stop throwing good money after bad.

Give me a break. You are going way out of your way to try and avoid having to criticize one of your personal favorites.

You wanna know who called that pitch?

WIL NIEVES.

WIL NIEVES called that change up.

who?

WIL freakING NIEVES.

stop being a fanboy and criticize when it is necessary. If Bard were behind the plate, you would have jumped all over him for that call.

but since it is one of your personal posse, you try to put the blame anywhere except where it belongs, and try to feign ignorance talking about some "I wanna know who made that call" when you know damn well who it was.

GTFOHWTBS.

I enjoy close games that we are winning. I like well-pitched games as opposed to slaughter fests.

well that is the nail in the coffin. no chance the Nats score 5 runs.

That's BS. It is not situational hitting. It is what Pedroia does. Of course he doesn't try to hit a home run. He never does. It is the difference between having a lineup of talent that understands the concept of quality at bats and getting on base and one that doesn't.

please move stammen to the pen.  you can see first time through he is usually solid, 2nd time through it's over.

I'm watching the live stream of his start online. looks just like he did up here. throwing strikes but he's too hittable.

I remember during ST when Olsen was getting pounded start after start he would claim that "he's not worried and it's just ST". we saw how that carried over when the real games begun. :?

I expect Olsen to be back in the rotation by next week, unfortunately.

Stammen should have simply thrown the same pitch Youklis naged about the last time. He's been completely freaked out since then.

You said you don't even like watching the Nats play in competitive games. You said they playing close games is meaningless and you prefer that they get blown out than they lose a close one. You might eventually get your wish but this game is still within reach.

that was the kid's best game of the year.  every outing i've seen him, he's been pretty solid the first time through.  by the fourth inning he gets into trouble.

he'd make for a good right handed specialist, when someone is on base, with that sinker ball/change combo.
