If Davey is set on bringing Derosa back, what would Lombo net in a trade?  A hard throwing lefty reliever?

Curious, what kind of prospect(s) do you think Morse could land? Not looking names, but rankings. At least somebody that would instantly be in our top 10?

I know Morse is a very good player, but I figure the durability/only 1 year of club control might hurt him. Maybe I'm totally underestimating it.

#75ish prospect in baseball

Carter Capps would also be nice or at least a deal based around him.

If Hamilton really can be had at 3 years, any shot the Nats are interested?

How is Hamilton not a Rizzo guy?

I mean we're full in the outfield and he wasn't a perfect fit for our roster and situation. But why does everyone keep saying that he's not a Rizzo guy?

http://www.rantsports.com/mlb/2012/03/06/texas-rangers-josh-hamilton-plans-transition-to-first-base/

Quote
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton has plans to extend his professional baseball career by eventually transitioning to first base. Hamilton said he believes he has four more good years left as an outfielder, but his slugging ability will last far longer than his fielding capability.

Switching to first base will improve Hamilton’s value as a player by prolonging his career. A left-hander at 6’4″ tall, Hamilton has the ideal build to be a first baseman. While his athleticism as an outfielder serves him well in his prime now, it likely won’t last into his late 30s like most elite players. This is due to the wear and tear on Hamilton’s body due to heavy drug and alcohol use in his younger days.

Rizzo likes guys who can field and don't make 25 million a year.

If he's capable of giving up the money to Werth, a player in decline, he'd have no problem giving the money to Hamilton.

Rizzo wanted an impact signing then so he made one.  Werth has great makeup and was a late bloomer so the idea was/is that he still has plenty left in the tank.  Hamilton will age faster than most due to his alcohol and drug abuse.

Werth was over the hill when he signed here. "Message" signing or not, Werth was not a good signing.

So don't put it past Rizzo to sign Hamilton.

So don't put it past Rizzo to sign Hamilton.

To the first part:  How was Werth washed up?  In 2010 he batted .296 (.388 with 27 homers.  In 2009 he batted .268 (.373 OBP) and hit 36 homers.  Considering it was an overpay to begin with, he was hardly washed up.

To the second part:  I would put it past Rizzo to sign Hamilton because we have no space for him.  Maybe if we were in dire need of offense and had an OF spot available.  It won't happen.

The Dbacks signed Brandon McCarthey. I still think we should try and get Trevor Bauer. We can keep him in Triple A for a season to rehab his injury, and then next year we have Haren's replacement.

Werth was a great signing.  If for nothing else, the message to the rest of the league alone was worth the extra year or two they have to pay him on the tail end.  The Nats were coming off 60 something wins and the year before that, 50 something wins.  Hell the extra year or two could be justified by hitting the biggest home run in Nats history in the playoffs last year.

I think the Nats have enough injured young pitchers.  I wouldn't want to trade more to get another one.
