The expected cap space was counted on to mitigate the loss of the draft picks.   :smh:

So the Redskins freaked up their salary cap to build a 5-11 team? Outstanding!

It was done to have salary cap flexibility when the salary cap era resumed but in the end it's still freaking up.

As bad as the Redskins have been at signing free agents, maybe this is a blessing.

Can someone break this down a bit more for me?  I'm not really following why this blew up in their faces.

They front loaded contracts in an un capped year- mike brown and other cheap owners got pissed, now they loose 34 million in cap space over the next two years. The union agreed in exchange for the nfl raising the cap this year so that their membership wouldn't realize that the new cba basically freaked them

They and the Cowboys were warned six times not to front load deals in the uncapped year as a way to screw with the cap once it came back in play in 2012. Because of the accounting tricks the Skins were 31 million under the cap this offseason. NFL punished them with 36 million in fines which I assume means that was the amount they front loaded last year.

When they warn you six times, you probably should take notice.

Quote from: Rotoworld
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the NFL is taking away millions in salary-cap space from the Cowboys and Redskins for illegal front-loading of deals during the 2010 uncapped year.

According to Profootballtalk.com, teams were warned "at least six times" they would face "serious consequences" for using the uncapped year as an opportunity to dump salaries. The Cowboys will lose $10 million compared to the Redskins' whopping $36 million hit. Dallas was reportedly $4.7 million under the $120.6 million cap while Washington was in better shape at $31.3 million under. The franchises have the option of splitting the damage over 2012 and 2013, but it's still going to have a deleterious effect on the Cowboys' speculated interest in major free agents such as LG Carl Nicks, DE/OLB Mario Williams, and CB Cortland Finnegan and the Redskins' pursuit of Vincent Jackson.

I worry that RG3 could be the next JaMarcus Russell.

Maybe they are trying to trick the Colts into taking RG3 so that we can get Luck.

That's wishful thinking.

DeSean Jackson was franchised by the Eagles.

Vincent Jackson came from the Chargers.

When it's not a rule, who cares? Oh yeah I forgot, the NFL isn't supposed to be ran this way, but now it is. Obviously if it were ran properly this wouldn't have happened.

freak I love Bruce Allen:

Quote
The Washington Redskins have received no written documentation from the NFL concerning adjustments to the team salary cap in 2012 as reported in various media outlets. Every contract entered into by the club during the applicable periods complied with the 2010 and 2011 collective bargaining agreements and, in fact, were approved by the NFL commissioner’s office. We look forward to free agency, the draft and the coming football season.
