Alright Eso: I was watching some program a few weeks back and some dudes were being sentecne for a crime, and the judge senteced one dude to 25 to life(which i figures meant that he would have to serve a life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years) and then the next dude he gave a sentence of life to 25.

Is 25-to-life the same as life-to-25? If not, what the difference?

I've never heard of the concept of "life-to-25," which seems just as backwards to me as it does to you.  Perhaps the judge misspoke or something?  Keep in mind, however, that I'm focusing on litigation and big corporate work, not criminal defense, so I just can't speak with any authority on sentencing.
