BP says: Kevin Goldstein (4:10:06 PM PT): I like the Nats 3rd round pick here in Danny Espinosa. He's a better defender than either of the big names LBSU shortstops (Crosby, Longoria), but not nearly to offensive firepower.

Yeah, he is consireded the 2nd best prep catcher in this year's class. I don't know why he fell, maybe signability or a strong commitment to USF (havent had words on that). Or his injury might have scared some scouts.

Switch hitting catcher, with a good arm and decent power (projects to hit 10-15 hr's at the big league level). However, he missed a alot of time last season due to injuries and has below average speed. If we sign him, it will be a gamble.

Keep in mind that our 5th ranked prospect (by BA) is Jack McGeary, and he was picked in the 6th round (190th overall) last year. These late picks definitely aren't worthless.

I know him (not personally, but I've seen him)... my friend went to his old school, so we went to see one of his games. He was so much better than everyone else out there...

You don't generally don't draft a catcher for his speed. If he's the second rated prep catcher out there, this doesn't seem like much of a gamble to me.

McGeary wasn't expected to sign because he committed to Stanford. The Nats agreed to pay for his college education and gave him 1st round money.

We may need to do that again this season w/ some of these HS guys.
