Josh johnson, lincecum, dickey, halladay, carpenter

Those last three are 35 years old +. Signing them would be a mistake.

Halladay may vest, dickey and johnson scare me as much as lincecum, and carpenter will be 38- basically - extend Zimmermann!!

Does anyone else really not get the all-out rush for Greinke? Not that he's not a "good" player, but there's talk that he might eclipse CC Sabathia's 7/$161 contract.

The two LA teams are flush with television contract money, free agent contracts are going to go sky high.

Halladay would have to pitch 250+ innings for his option to vest.

Dickeyis a knuckleballer so he should have another 5 or so years of quality performance.

Him and halladay are horses that would be great on two  or even three year deals

The nice thing is that we have some trade pieces if we need to trade for a starting pitcher in the season.

Comment From SeanP
What's your favorite signing/trade so far?

Dave Cameron: Span for Meyer. A steal for Washington.

Would I be wrong in saying LAC for letting Burnett get away?

:stir:

I know we have some in-house options.. but what gives?

$9.5MM guaranteed for 2 years, per MLBTR.  That's a lot for a middle reliever who is getting up there.

If you are referring to Burnett, he's only getting $8 million over 2 years and he's just 30 years old.

I would have no problem giving him that.

David Schoenfield from ESPN is early to get on the Nats bandwagon.

http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/31261/with-healthy-haren-nationals-could-win-100

Calls the Nats the WS favorites in the Mets comparison article.  Just being compared to a 108 win club is crazy considering where this team was a few years ago.

I'm guessing Rizzo thought he would want a lot more and probably didn't bother pursuing him.  He's a good value at 2/$8M

And with the franchise being 8 years old, I don't think you can define any "new" fan as a band-wagoner.

And sorry to see Burnett go. Let's hope Rizzo finds us a nice lefty replacement.

Jerry DiPoto didn't think Dan Haren was worth $13M.

Mike Rizzo didn't think Sean Burnett was worth $8M.

Jerry DiPoto didn't think Dan Haren was worth $13M.

Mike Rizzo didn't think Sean Burnett was worth $8M.

Another similarity: health issues. Apparently Sean Burnett underwent surgery to have a bone spur removed, once he became a free agent this fall. Did not know that.
