McGeary's command is way off tonight.

5 walks and a wild pitch through 3 IP.

3 IP 3 H 3 R 3 ER 5 BB 3 K.

He is leading 5-3 though because Norris, Labrie, and the Hagerstown hitters are rolling.

What's gonna happen when Norris supplants Flores?

fine with me if he is the better player. Norris is still really young though and probably at least 2 years away.

I'm really excited about him though.

disastrous outing for McGeary: 3 IP 4 H 5 R 5 ER 6 BB 3 K.

Desmond is 2/2 with 2 Singles and a SB so far tonight. He's batting .400 this season (8/20). :az:

espinosa + marrero = 2 future starters at SS and 1B?

i wonder if both have a  good season, if they make the top 100 list for BA and how much better our system looks

Over at MLBTR, Tim Dierkes lists Jordan Zimmermann first in his list of NL Rookie of the Year material, for the second or third time. I'm starting to get a little worried about the expectations.

I think he's up to the task. maybe not ROY since we are such a bad team but I think he'll do fine.

Some notes from Potomac's first game tonight:

-  Arnesen did his thing and was battling through at-bats with the hitters.  He had problems with putting away batters when he was ahead in the count.  Even though he had 5 strikeouts, he could have had many more and instead let the batter come back and grab a single, double, or even walk.  It looks like he will be the so called "ace" of the team this season.

-  Chris Marrero... what can I say.  He had a great statistical night, but he did a lot more than is written.  As of his 4th inning at-bat, Salem's pitcher, Eammon Portice, was rolling over our line up and at a quick pace.  Espinosa was the first one to crack a hit off Portice in the 4th, but then Burgess followed up with a walk.  Unfortunately, the next batter, Stephen King, struck out with his bat on his shoulder to give bring Marrero up with two outs and two runners in scoring position.  Marrero's at-bat that followed was the key at-bat of the game.  He took a ball in the dirt for ball one and then took two strikes looking for a 1-2 count.  At this point, he was basically down to his last strike in what seemed like it would be Potomac's only hope to score in the game.  He then fouled off two balls to stay alive in the count.  And finally, on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, he cleared the bases with a double.  Turning point in the game, no doubt.

-  Speaking of Marrero.  I dogged him for his defense last night, but he really came through tonight.  He snagged a line drive ball down the foul line, managed to keep the ball in fair play and tag first base, where a runner had been present, for the unassisted double play.

-  Burgess.  Almost every pitcher will pitch around Burgess.  He will get a lot of balls in the inside and he sees a majority of breaking balls.  The problem is that he can't hit breaking balls.  It seems like the only time he can get a hit/home run, is when the pitcher is dumb enough to send him a fastball.  Hopefully he can't start hitting some breaking balls, otherwise it could become a major roadblock for his path to the majors.

-  Dan Nelson has had good nights the past two games, both offensively and defensively.  Danny Espinosa had an absolutely great game and has one of the hands down, best eyes in our system.  He can take pitchers deep in the count, but he isn't afraid to swing at an early one that he likes.  He also is hungry for the stolen bases, but he did get thrown out today.

-  Stephen King should not be batting fourth, Jewett needs to wake up and move Marrero third.

-  Andrew Kown came in for the final innings.  He is a career minor leaguer and he will be used in garbage time/clean up time mostly this year.

thanks for the notes. I love what Marrero is doing right now. Where did Dan Nelson come from?

Espinosa drew 2 more walks in the second game of the DH. Looks like Milone had a good outing.

He was with St. Louis last year.  It sounds like he had injury problems and they let him go.  The P-Nats didn't even think he was close to being ready, but apparently he is healthy and thriving.  He just turned 25 this year, so I don't know what kind of future he has.

Patrick Arnold just came in with the bases loaded for Hagerstown in 10th.  The first pitch was a fastball left up over the plate and he paid for it with a two RBI single.

Yeah, Espinosa has been excellent.  I have been high on Milone since last year.  There is always a place for a guy with pin point accuracy, even if he can't throw incredibly hard.  He barely ever walks guys, can get strikeouts, and lets up a homer here and there, but nothing damaging.

Peralta took a dump on the mound for the Suns. blew it in the 9th and 10th. :?

damn, have you noticed Espinosa has been running like crazy lately? He's got 2 steals in the second game but he's also been caught stealing. He's got 4 steals and 3 CS on the year.

Trent Jewett is crazy with the steals.  He calls for them all the time.  Espinosa definitely has some speed, though.  The scouting on him is deceptive speed and good instincts on the basepath.  Burgess has some wheels too.

Did Daniel Stern narrate his defeat?

Justin Maxwell steps to the plate in a tie game in the 12th inning against Lehigh Valley and cranks a Solo HR to give the Chiefs the lead.

prior to that AB he was 0/5 with 2 Ks on the night.

Gunderson is blowing it right now...

UPDATE:  Walks two batters, bases now loaded for a dude that is 2 for 3 tonight.

UPDATE2:  Gunderson strikes him out on three pitches.  The P-Nats take both of the double header to move to .500 heading home tomorrow for the opener.

I'm thinking of Kevin Arnold. Not sure why Patrick Arnold always makes me think of the Wonder Years.

Mock finally produces and gets a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th inning to preserve the 5-4 win for Syracuse. GW HR by J-Max.

Nats farm teams go 4-1 today.

Easily the best day for the organization to this point this year.  The bats are starting to warm up at Hagerstown and Potomac.  Those in attendance at Pfitzner this weekend will be in for a treat.

I may go on Saturday night after the early Caps/Nats games at 1.

do you know the pitching match-ups for their games this weekend?
