Good outing for Lannan. Got a win despite troubles, and pitched 98 in 8 innings.

great win, way to get the win back for Lannan.

Lannan is awesome.

And to the Hudson thing, I was just saying that Im sure he would've thought of coming here if we had a high offer. I don't think hes one of those picky guys. I think money persuades him

Lannan was Lannan.  He's not an ace, he's not a #5.  He's a solid #3 on a winning team and that's what we're trying to build.  John didn't have his best stuff today, but [manny acta] battled out there today [/manny acta] and gave us a chance.  I never miss one of his starts and haven't since he was called up in '07.  He's a true pro and I'd like to think his hard work and mental make-up inspires his teammates.

 I went to the Sox game with my friend, I had to pretend to be sad when they lost (I mean I kinda was) while being excited for the Nats. Followed it on my phone, great game.

Lannan was Lannan.  He's not an ace, he's not a #5.  He's a solid #3 on a winning team and that's what we're trying to build.

He's much better than a #3 pitcher.  You do realize that there are 30 MLB teams?  That would put him approximately between 61 and 90, if you're ranking pitchers, if he were a #3.  Of course, this is an inexact ranking because some teams will have several really good pitchers, San Fran, for example, and they'd have #2 pitcher who's better than other teams #1.  It's inexact but it's a close approximation of what a #3 pitcher is.  Again, he's much better than that.

He's a #1 pitcher, at worst a high #2, because he's among the top 30 pitchers in baseball.  He's just not an ace but most teams don't have aces, including most good teams.  There are just a handful of true aces in baseball.

If Strasburg and Zimmermann are as good as they are said to be - right now Zimmermann is doing a good job of backing up his hype - than Lannan will be our number three.  It's a good thing.

Does anyone know why this game was televised?  Shouldn't it have been blacked out like the Rays-Nats game a couple of weeks ago because of the national game blackout period, 1 pm-7 pm, I believe?

The period starts at 1:10 and ends at 7:05. The game started at 1:10.

Actually our game started at 1:05 so it wasn't blacked out. Games after 1:10 are blacked out.

This is from MLB's website:
Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, live games occurring each Saturday with a scheduled start time after 1:10 PM ET or before 7:05 PM ET and each Sunday with a scheduled start time after 5:00 PM ET, will be blacked out in the United States

Braves have a thread on their board titled "Nationals next year".

Am I the only one who is scared of the Nationals team next year? In my opinion they are grossly underperforming this year and have the potential to be a solid .500 team.

If Strasburg shapes up to be an ace and Zimmerman gets his stuff together, they're going to have a very respectable rotation with Lannan, Zimmerman and Strasburg. Plus their offense is actually very solid.

Morgan (Good leadoff guy)
Nick Johnson (.400+ OBP)
Zimmerman (Going to mash one day)
Dunn
Willingham (Young, but already a pretty solid hitter)
Guzman
Good ol' Willie Harris

That's a pretty solid team in my opinion. Watch out if they pick up another solid pitcher or big bat.

wtf? read this from Adam Dunn:

Quote
Q: Did Lannan really come up to you after the seventh inning homer and say 'We're going to win this game?'

Yeah, he did. In the seventh inning. You know, maybe he sees dead people, too.

Thats pretty funny to read becasue in reality we did have a solid team early in the year. We've lost atleast 12 games due to our bullpen when our offense was mashing crap.

The thing that gets me so depressed is our bullpen has somewhat gotten better but now our offense has been crap the past 3 weeks+ or so. It just sucks to see our offense die down and not ammount to anything. We would be a great team if both things pitching and offense worked together.

It seems Dunn would be a cool guy to hang out with. He made our fans seem like we had a packed house the way he described being there. Although it should feel that way every game (loud and energetic) it was just cool to hear him comment on that.

Dunn=class act. The fans loved his 300th, and he was humble. Hope he sticks around!
