Yeah, they would be trading one of the most promising players in the league to the current best team in the division.

Uglla is, well, Uggla.

Uggla was decent when they traded him

They would also be receiving a huge load of players that could fill the holes that they'd be getting rid of.

Goodwin, Espinosa, Purke, Moore, Bullpen Arm(s), whatever else... just give them all the stuff.

We would be undoing the last 4 or 5 years of Rizzo's scouting.

For a guy totally worth it that would be here and help the major league product currently.

I don't care honestly, but I hope we at least inquired about Stanton lol

I'd always trade the unknown for the known.

Of course, I don't get paid to run a team  :punch:

I'm slightly concerned about his knee issues. Early 20s and already needing knee surgery is not a good sign.

More to the point, I don't think one player is worth that much of our team, especially when we don't have any real replacements for them.

Remember how much guys like Lombo, Garcia, Detwiler, and Moore contributed this year? We don't win the division without them stepping up. We might not even make the playoffs.

something to consider is that following their monster  trade with the jays, the marlins have 2 outfielders in Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick who rank #17 and #35 respectively.  They also have another OF prospect named Marcell Ozuna who I'm a fan of.  If they are building towards the future, or whatever the marlins' equivalent of that is, then OF is a position that they are pretty well off even without BGS.  Could factor into what they do with him.

That's a good point.  They may move him next offseason.  Not likely this offseason unless he really makes a big stink.

they don't seem to mind being worse for a season (if anything it helps draft position) if they can get better value in return, I think it's 50/50

Not sure why Stanton would want to play in Miami anymore.  Just act like a huge douche, get traded, and then shut up.

This is baseball, not basketball. Owners don't cowtow to the whim of a player. Stanton hasn't even hit arbitration yet.

Bold predictions for 2013 Nationals from ESPN (Eric Karabell):

Washington Nationals: Bryce Harper takes over the No. 3 lineup slot from the injured Ryan Zimmerman (sorry, Ryan) and smacks 33 home runs. Tyler Moore becomes the team's everyday left fielder and swats 22 home runs. Ian Desmond is replaced at shortstop by Danny Espinosa.

Washington Nationals: Nothing bold about giving the Cy Young Award to Stephen Strasburg, but he'll strike out 242 hitters, post a 2.38 ERA and win 21 games. Yeah, he's that good. And Gio Gonzalez will win just 11 games, though his numbers will look pretty similar to 2012. Hey, not all the bold stuff is positive!

He just needs to praise Castro and then they'll ship him out of town.

Well , since TMo had only 156 AB's he would be expected to have 600 Ab's as the full time left fielder. With 4 X as many AB's he would only be expected to hit 22 HR's?

Ian desmond is going where? Right , he is a fav of one of the Lerner girls and she has run off with him to live in a monastery in Tibet.

I think Ryan should become a bubble boy ( Seinfield reference) and avoid a season ending injury.Gio becomes our EJax and has a medicore season.Right!!! A fall-off perhaps.

This is as stupid a post as I have ever seen.

Ian would have to get injured to lose his position next season.

Especially to Danny Espinosa. Danny is probably the better fielder but in no way would he replace someone he is slightly better than in the field and can't even produce half the numbers that Desmond did last year.

You're assuming that Desmond can repeat last season. Which is rather hopeful.

I could be rehashing something I already threw out there, but I might take Swisher on a 4 year deal to replace LaRoche.  Swisher could play LF with Moore or Morse at 1B in 2013, then shift to 1B in 2014 if and when Goodwin is ready.  If Goodwin or someone else is not ready to play CF, then keep Harper there and play Swisher and Moore in LF and 1B for another year or two.

Ian Desmond just had a fantastic season - why is Danny Espinosa taking his spot next year?  That's a bold prediction, but Desmond would have to crater and Espinosa would have to play much better for that to happen.  Zimmerman getting injured, Moore playing well, and Stras winning the Cy Young are all realistic predictions, though.

No, I'm assuming that Desmond's last season has earned him a huge leash. Which is rather obvious.

Exactly what Kevrock said. Even if Desmond didn't do exactly what he did this year, he still would be the preferable option at short over Espinosa.

I actually like those. Seem reasonable.

As we've seen the last three years, all it takes for Desmond to come unraveled at the plate is a small, nagging injury. And three years in a row, he's gotten one.

Unraveled? He was just as good in August when he came back from his injury as he was before it.

There was a two week period where he couldn't do crap. He was bunting because he couldn't swing.
