Sorry, but when I was a kid I don't recall and of my friends or I having it.
Don't even recall my parents or our doctor even suggesting it.
Never had a throat culture taken.

It seems more common now ... like ear infections, conjunctivitis, and others.

All of them were very common fifty or more years ago... there are chronic diseases that have grown much more prevalent in children these days (e.g. asthma) but the diseases you describe have all been very common throughout history.  I don't know that doctors really medicated most of them at the time, though.

And peanut allergies. We were awash in peanut butter when I was young and there was never anyone allergic.

Yeah, stuff like allergies, asthma, autism, diabetes (sadly)... all much more common in children now than they were in the past.  But stuff like ear infections or strep are just diseases infants catch and likely always will, because their immune systems haven't built up sufficiently yet.

The speculation is that since children are kept so sheltered and protected these days, their immune systems don't have to work like most children's did in the past.  So for lack of anything else to attack, they become hypersensitive and start attacking harmless allergens like peanut oil.
