Marlins series
« Topic Start: April 06, 2014, 04:58:47 PM »
The Marlins have started the year hot, but are still young and lightly regarded. Apparently we're missing Jose Fernandez as well.

Game one:
Gio vs. Alvarez (career 4.29 ERA)

Game two:
Roark vs. Turner (career 4.37 ERA)

Game three:
Zimmermann vs. Koehler (career 4.44 ERA)

Need to sweep here to have a successful homestand.

That's an advantage? They like playing in silence? :D

We need to sweep to knock them out of first I think?

Two out of three would be fine.

2/3 works for me. Nats are 4-2. So far, so good.

I'm glad Hanley Ramierz , who was a real Nats killer,  is not around anymore but Stanton scares me to death. Can we just inten. Walk him every time?

If he plays, why not just forfeit?

Good idea but MLB would not allow.

That's a good idea; watched some of the Bad News Bears over the weekend and that was their opponents startegy for the Jackie Haley character.

Just win the series and keep on winning series after that. A sweep would be lovely but 2/3 is required, especially since Nats are missing the Fishy ace this time.

Roark is going to be switched out for Zimmermann and Strasburg will pitch the final game.

2/3 would be great but I wouldn't mind a sweep going into Atlanta. That said, I don't want to get ahead of myself. Let's win the first game first.

2 out of 3 is a successful series.

I think the Marlins are going to be tough to beat. They have a couple bats in the middle and the rest of the team is built to pitch and catch. Remind me of the 2011 Nats.

2 out of 3 is always a successful series this early- if you expect to sweep even a terrible team, you're going to spend a lot of the year disappointed. I agree that the Marlins could be good. On the BP podcast, they were saying that the only reason they aren't getting praised and picked to do better is the M on their hats, and I think there's some truth to that- the team is young and constructed on the cheap, but it's also talented.

2 of 3 may be a successful series but it won't mean a successful homestand.  We lost the braves series, so 2 of 3 means a .500 homestand and that's not successful.  For a successful homestand we need to compensate for losing the Braves series, we need to sweep the Marlins.  I know, it's supposed to be "let's take em one at a time".  Hell with that, I want all three.

It's no different than in 2012. Just keep winning series' and we'll win the division going away. They did that so remarkably well two years ago. Get back to that and we'll be just fine.
