To be honest I was about to blame it on Tom and start nagging about why he re-edited my edit

Pretty tempted to add his height and DOB into the thread title for fun at this point, but this is my first FtP thread and I don't want to get run out of the subforum.

mlb network was saying that the 70 that they gave giolito's fastball was being conservative.  I've also seen his curve rated as a 70 and his change as a potential plus pitch.

What's the max?  It's a weird scale that doesn't go to 100, correct?

20-80 with 50 being major league average

@masnKolko: Bryce Harper texted Lucas Giolito tonight to welcome him to the #Nats. That's a 19-year-old welcoming a 17-year-old

Now that's Natitude!

Kid looks like a stud but no one else is worried about the fact that the guy had surgery on his pitching ELBOW? Add to the fact that this team's medical staff is AAA garbage. We already seen that Rendon has had some set backs but it is what it is, ill just keep my mouth shut  :-[

Just to add one more thing on twitter they said that we only had about $4 million in salary to spend on the draft so how much will this kid get?

I don't know if you're joking but that isn't true.

In March of 2012, Giolito sprained the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, sidelining him for the rest of the season. He started a throwing program to rehab in May.

No surgery either.

ahhhhh sprained instead of tore! But he did miss the rest of the season though, which kinda sucks but atleast its sprained. Well then my whole opinion on this pick has changed solid pick up. Thanks for the info Squab! I could have sworn I read somewhere that he tore his UCL.

Jordan Zimmermann and Stephen Strasburg both had surgery on their pitching elbows.  They seem to be doing OK.  He's 17, even if he does need tj, he's got plenty of time to recover and get polished in the minors.

I faced low to mid 90s sometimes playing in HS but can you imagine seeing a 100mph pitch while you're just playing in high school? Yikes.

I posted to Brian's blog a comment about the possibility of the Nats being willing to exceed the cap and forfeit a #1 next year.  With EJ likely to qualify as a compensation guy and looking for a multi-year contract, he may be the type of guy you can safely offer qualifying arbitration to, hope will walk, and get a compensation pick or two.  You give up one pick in the 2d half of the first round if you did blow the cap, but with a supplemental and possibly another pick coming back, the damage might not be so great.

Sign him quick. Get him into uniform. Let him sit a game in the dugout, hang along the rail with Strassburg, Storen, Big Gio. Chat with Harper and Lombo and Morse, listen to RZim and LaRoche.
