As compared to Melky Cabrera?

melky has more upside.  rizzo likes upside moves.

I hope he crotch-chops himself out of the league.

If you take away his 2012, he hasn't even been as good as Pagan.

Cabrera - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4022&position=OF

Pagan - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2918&position=OF

Where is the upside?

offensive upside.  a hell of a lot of pagan's WAR comes from his defense.  Trying to measure defensive value is a bigger crapshoot than the mlb draft.

Popped in 2004 and 2005. Admitted to it. Took it when he had a torn muscle.

Oh crap. Well, I understand the injury part... but I wonder if he couldn't lay off the stuff. I want to believe that he did.

Also, Hamilton is the obvious choice. Sure, people want to say "blah blah blah relapse and lollygagged a fly ball" but the guy literally destroyed in a pitchers park.

Then why not just keep Morse?  More offensive upside than both.

non-issue.  still a good character guy.  I'm not saying you think this way, but I feel that a lot of people think that every athlete who uses steroids is a dick.  Then they learn that one of their favorite players tested positive a while ago and they make lame excuses and try to overlook it.  steroids don't make you a dick but there are dicks who use them (A-roid).

:lmao:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/10/nationals-notes-desmond-morse-moore-jackson.html

Quote
•The Nationals had preliminary talks about a contract extension with Ian Desmond earlier this season, a source told Bill Ladson of MLB.com.  Ladson adds that it would not be a surprise to see the Nats and the shortstop start up talks again this winter.  Recently, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post suggested that Desmond could be in line for a six-year, $45MM deal.
•A source indicated that opposing teams have expressed interest in Tyler Moore.  The Nats may also look at trading Michael Morse.  Both players are best suited for first base and their fit in Washington will hinge largely on what happens with LaRoche.  As it stands now, both players figure to be involved in left field alongside Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth.
•The source told Ladson that there could be a possible domino effect if Adam LaRoche isn't re-signed this winter.  Ryan Zimmerman could potentially be moved to first base while Anthony Rendon would be given a chance to start at third.
•The same source quantified the odds of Edwin Jackson returning to the Nats at 50/50 as it seems doubtful that Rizzo would give the pitcher a long-term deal.
•It's almost a given that John Lannan will be non-tendered this offseason, according to a baseball source.  Lannan earned $5MM in 2012 and spent the bulk of the year in Triple-A.

So much wow there

I would love to know the teams interested in Moore.

I would love to have Zimmerman at first and Rendon at third, if Rendon can hit like we all hope.

Lannan not coming back is ... interesting. Couple that with the Edwin Jackson 50/50 and it's more interesting. I still want Anibal Sanchez on a 4-5 year deal at somewhere around 11-13 million per year average.

Why put an injury prone guy at the hot corner? I'd prefer Zimmerman to stay there.

We already have an injury prone guy at the corner.

Rendon's injuries are ankle related. Third is the best place for him. It's also the position he's most comfortable playing.

Zimmerman is less injury prone than Rendon. And Rendon's going to be moving to his left and right frantically while diving. Plus, I already know what I'm getting at third. I don't feel comfortable moving a guy to first and replacing him with a rookie.

I can't see Zim moving to 1st base anytime soon - unless there is something seriously, long term wrong with his shoulder

Moving Zimm to 1B would certainly offset the defensive concerns with losing ALR. And this would instantly make Morse or Moore expendable. And both would be expendable if the plan is to move Werth to left and Harper to RF. But who would play center? Maybe that's what we would get in a trade for Moore or Morse....maybe the search for the white whale will pick up this winter.

The only concern I have with losing ALR is losing his LH bat.

Or if they are really hot on Rendon and want to get him up soon and don't want him at 2B.

Yeah, I don't know - maybe.

Going from very proven to very unproven for a team that just won 98 games seems very risky to me

the other option is high priced free agents and a steadily increasing payroll and age. Few teams can pull that off without crashing in a huge way. I have no problem with inserting youth where possible- we wouldn't be a 98 win team without harper last year.

Zimmerman has been healthy one season out of the last five. Oh, and the dude is having serious issues throwing to first.

Eh, I don't think he's going to be that much of a slugging threat. He'll have a low average and low walk rate. I'm thinking Ike Davis.

This.
