JZ says the Nats are closer to a 1 year deal with him, per Kolko on twitter.  Hearing is 2/19 if necessary.  No long-term extension talks.

A JZ extension would be a nice finishing touch to this offseason.

What is everyones thoughts on Gio pitching in the WBC?  I dont like it, i dont want him doing anything with that arm in the offseason, not even whacking off...
Don't really have a problem with it.  He'll probably only pitch once and won't go a ton of innings.  The injury risk is over blown.

I've come around to this view- besides, young guys pitch in winter leagues, and everyone pitches in ST, so it's not like pitchers gets their arm ensconced in bubble wrap from October to opening day.

Nats announce minor league deal with Will Ohman. Gives them more lefty depth/options in the 'pen, along with Bray and Duke.

Another lefty... good I guess?

Considering our lefties Burnett, Gonzalez and Gorz left the Nats pen, getting more lefties is a good thing

I saw an interview with Stephen Strassburg over ESPN...went for a slice, heard "baseball", and wammo! No big deal questions or answers...significant thing is Strassburg was standing next to a batting cage and a string of guys in red hats who were loosening up.

It's back!

TT/ Linty - has anyone landed Rafael Perez?  Would he be worth a look/see?

2008 version maybe. He's still unsigned as of now.

It is still the offseason, but with pitchers and catchers reporting, I'm inclined to lock this thread.  Day to day Spring Training and roster moves can be in the Spring Training thread.  Any new significant acquisition will get its own thread, most likely.  Towards the end of spring there will probably be a 25 man roster and a bullpen thread started up.
