After missing out on Beurhle, yes, I did anticipate the Nats trading for someone.

We can't trade for Price and keep Rendon.

way to answer the question.  It is also a false statement.  Meyer and Goodwin are both top 70 prospects, Karns could sneak into the back end of the top 100, and espinosa is a young, cost-controled middle infielder with a stellar glove, good pop, and good speed.  We may be frustrated but other teams will still value his upside.  The Rays could be especially inrigued by him due to the fact that he will stay under team control for the next 4 years and plays shortstop which is a position they need pretty desperately.  Meyer, Goodwin, Karns, Espinosa, and Flores/Leon could get talks started.

Price’s trade value will never be higher than it will be this winter, Olney writes. However, the left-hander’s salary will rise considerably from $4.35MM following his Cy Young-caliber 2012 season. This means the budget-conscious Rays will probably decide to part with Price at some point between now and when he hits free agency after the 2015 season. “There will be a day when the Rays trade him,” Olney writes.
Tampa Bay could seek up-the-middle players for Price, who has extraordinary trade value as a controllable top-of-the-rotation left-hander.
There’s a wide expectation that the Rangers will trade Elvis Andrus this winter. But Andrus isn’t a great fit for the Rays given his salary and service time, so they’d presumably ask about shortstop prospect Jurickson Profar in talks for Price.
It’s hard to imagine the Royals obtaining Price from the Rays without giving up Wil Myers, Salvador Perez, Mike Moustakas or Eric Hosmer, Olney writes.

Seriously, would you trade Strasburg for that?

A couple things.  First, notice how i said at the end that the package i suggested could get talks started.  Second, the nats and strasburg are completely different situation than the rays and david price, ie we actually have the money to extend strasburg.  Third, why would I trade Strasburg for prospects that we already have ;)

Maybe we can also trade all of the gold in Fort Knox for Yu Darvish and Tajiri and whatever other athlete anyone might want on the Nats.

You're completely dodging the question. That package doesn't even get the Rays to pick up the phone.

Morse/Moore, Rendon, Purke/Meyer, Espinosa/Lombo

they would prefer moore over morse due to price and team control so we'll say moore for that one.  They would also perfer meyer to purke due to purke being the worse than rendon when it comes to injuries (and purke's injuries aren't really flukes).  they'd also prefer espinosa because as most people on this board say "he's the better player.  Giving them the better of the 3 options you have listed plus Goodwin and one of our young catchers should compensate for not giving them rendon, no?

Price is a FA after 2015 right?  I'm assuming this season his arb value jumps up to about 15 Mil for the season.  If that is the case, and he continues to get paid even more, what is the sense of trading a bunch of prospects for Price if overall he may cost just a bit cheaper than a Grienke or Haren?

No, especially since those catchers are nothing more than Triple A fodder. Goodwin is barely a Top 50 prospect. Meyer and Purke aren't. Rendon is mandatory. They won't budge without him because he's the only player in that list with upper tier upside.

if they trade him, you're talking about one of the two or three best young pitchers in the game- every team would be in and the final price would be enormous

Eh 15 would be a lot for first time arbitration. I could see 10 though.

Price is younger than both of them. He's way better than Haren. He's better than Grienke. He is the best left handed pitcher in baseball.

As much as i love price, kershaw has him beat there.

Maybe ... maybe. But Price has proven that he can be the ace of a playoff team and has pitched in the World Series. On top of that, he's not having injury problems, where as Kershaw is. And Price may end up being cheaper.

If price is better, less often injured, and a playoff ace then why would he get payed less?  But yeah it's very close between the two of them.
