Jesus, there's so much gold in this draft. I wish draft picks were tradeable so we could deal Marquis, Pudge, and a couple other guys for first-rounders. :insert drooling smiley without Dukes pic:

If picks were tradable, we'd have every first through thirtieth round draft pick from now until 2079 traded for 39 year old never-weres by Jimbo the Clown. Thank god draft picks aren't tradable, because if they were, we'd make the Redskins look like they have a ton of picks. Since they aren't, it thankfully stopped Jimbo from continuing to do damage after he'd left the team. Strasburg and Harper wouldn't have been here if they were, I can guarantee that much.

My god, the damage Jimbo the Clown could have done if you could trade draft picks in MLB. I shudder to think.

With Pudge and Marquis in the deal, the couple of other guys would be Harper & Starsburg.

It's an interesting thought - would some clubs give up their first round picks to dump high salary guys?  Like the Giants and Zito, the Cubs and Soriano/Zambrano, and maybe the Mets and Perez.  Or maybe it would be less than that that a club would have to take on - like the Cubs and Fukudome.

WOW! Sonny Gray 9IP,3H,1ER,0BB,15K  now I see why people think so highly of him.  Taylor Jungmann 8IP,6H,3ER,0BB,9K and got the win(3-0).  Gerrit Cole 9IP,2H,0ER,2BB,8K there is no chance he falls to us.

Here's the Friday night roundup - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=4168

Lots of good pitchers this year.  I'm back to leaning towards taking 3 pitchers.  LOL.

Would you take him with the 6th pick?

I don't think he lasts till 23... but 6 is probably too early for someone with his potential.

I wouldn't mind that. There's a good chance one of those 3 pitchers will turn into something very special.

With the numbers he's putting up right now, I'd be very tempted to bring him home with the #6 pick.

What if Hultzen continues to dominate the rest of the season?  He's in the low 90's on his fastball which is good enough for a lefty.  Detwiler is in that same neighborhood and he was thought of highly enough to go 6th (or 5th or whatever - don't remember exactly).  Lots of MLB lefties are very successful in the low 90s.

Not raedy to proclaim him a good pick yet, but if continues down the path he's on, he'd be tough to pass up.

Lets not forget, he can hit too. Perfect for the NL.

I don't get why people are down on Hultzen with the 6th pick. He's dominating ACC competition so far.

Maybe I need to read a more negative scouting report on him or something. Anyone have one on him that is down on his projections or says he's topped out or won't translate to MLB level or whatever? All the scouting reports are so high on all the premier prospects it's hard to want one over the other.

I get the part about his fastball, but it's not too soft for a lefty. I guess people feel he doesn't have as much upside as some other pitchers? Production vs. upside, hmmm..

Here's something I found on him from July 1 2010. Virginia left-hander Danny Hultzen was named ACC pitcher of the year after going 11-1 with a 2.11ERA. Though baring a slight frame, Hultzen throws from a mid-3/4 arm slot with whippy action that offers plus movement on his 92-94mhp fastball. I guess his frame isn't as projectable as some of the other top pitching prospects in this draft.

Trevor Bauer pitching into the 10th.  He's struck out 17 on 128 pitches.  Suprised he's still in the game.  Can't see him in there much longer.

College coaches usually don't give a damn about pitcher's arms.

It's something that needs to be regulated better.

I don't.  I don't think you start treating college baseball like the WBC.  It's not meant to be a farm system for the farm system.  They're not there to act in the best interest of professional baseball.  Results do matter at that level so coaches do and should do whatever they feel best to do that for their program.  I'm not saying coaches should abuse the college pitchers, but putting some sort of pitch count on these guys isn't a good idea, either, IMO.  Bauer is a different beast though.  I don't think the coach would do that with any other pitcher on his roster.  He got pulled in the 11th, btw.  The relief pitcher promptly hit the first batter he faced on the first pitch and gets yanked.

If I was Trevor Bauer, I would have taken myself out of the game. I would have been like "Coach! This is my future we're talking about here. You can take this game and shove it."

No competitor will EVER consider taking himself out of a game.

If he actually said that, he cost himself a lot of money.

What's next, "coach I'm a free agent this off season, I'm done."

HA!  You don't know much about Bauer.  Personally, I'd lose a lot of respect for him as a competitor if he pulled a stunt like that, not to mention would it raise red flags all over the place if I were scouting him as a future pro.

If I'm Bauer's parent's, I'm pretty pissed at the coach.  If the kid wakes up tomorrow with a tight elbow or sore shoulder, his coach may have cost him hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.  I'd tell the coach to take his concepts of 'toughness' and shove it up his arse if my kid's future was on the line like that.
