c'mon the commercial aspect of it.  he's just a jolly ole big guy who gives presents out.  nothing wrong with that.  i wish he could deliver cliff lee/carl crawford/adam dunn.  instead we'll get coal from old man grinch.

and trust me i'm catholic, i respect the holy aspect of christmas more than the commercialized angle.  but it's fun to have both.

Many cultures and religions have a mythical gift giving dude, with different names and appearances.  A lot of parallels can be made between "Santa" and Odin, actually.

man, all this hate, from a guy who worked as a Santa when laid off years ago. It put food on my and my son's table (barely) and ended up getting me my next FT job at the place where I was Santa. I also loved all the cougars and young women who had to have a pic of them sitting on Santa's lap. I also loved being a Jewish Santa Claus.

Having met salty, he'd make a rather convincing Santa today.  But no lap sits from me.
