Where are the downpours? You can't have a Coors Field picture without the torrential downpours.  :D

It's raining right now in Denver, but they expect it to clear off for a while at least a little before game time with more rain later as they get later into the night and early morning.

There's a pretty good chance of rain all weekend...

Or.... it rains after two innings, and an hour and a half later the game restarts without Ubaldo!

But we'd be in our bullpen too.  Do you really want to risk another Bruney outing?

that man can throw 250 pitches or wait 5 hours for a delay and he'd still be fine 8)

Hmm, you actually *could* be right.  He almost seems like the type who could go out there after a rain delay.

I don't like the phrase "rubber arm", but it's the best way to describe him.  2005 he was our workhorse, but he was just such a solid pitcher that season.  This year reminds me of that season.  A lot of it has to do with him.

And I know some posters on here play down certain character traits other than talent - but this guy is a leader.

per NJ

Quote
The Nationals have a few different touches to their lineup today. Wil Nieves will catch Livan Hernandez, which is odd because Manager Jim Riggleman has made note of the productive union between Hernandez and Ivan Rodriguez. Also, Willie Harris take left for Josh Willingham, which is likely a way to get another left-handed bat in against Ubaldo Jimenez, one of the toughest righties in the game. And Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn have flipped in the 3 and 4 spots.

Nationals
1. Nyjer Morgan, CF
2. Adam Kennedy, 2B
3. Adam Dunn, 1B
4. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B
5. Willie Harris, LF
6. Ian Desmond, SS
7. Roger Bernadina, RF
8. Wil Nieves, C
9. Livan Hernandez, SP

Rockies
1. Carlos Gonzalez, CF
2. Seth Smith, LF
3. Brad Hawpe, RF
4. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
5. Todd Helton, 1B
6. Miguel Olivo, C
7. Ian Stewart, 3B
8. Clint Barmes, 2B
9. Ubaldo Jimenez, SP

I wouldn't even attribute it to the whole "rubber arm" quality.  I don't know how true that is of him any more.  He used to be an absolute mule, and he can still eat up a lot of innings, but he definitely isn't the same as he used to be.

The reason I say the rain delay thing is because: 1. he's a seasoned veteran and cerebral pitcher, 2. he doesn't throw hard.  Seems like a recipe for someone who could easily take the ball and toss it fairly well even after a rain delay.

Don't confuse lack of velocity with lack of effort. I can throw just as hard as Stephen Strasburg, but the ball doesn't have the same velocity.

I think they're trying to throw as many lefties as they can at Jiminez.

I like the idea that Guzman is out of the lineup again.

Riggs seems like he's done playing with peoples egos.

Why? That could be just what our bullpen needs. An entire night off or perhaps even two complete days off due to inclement weather. Both teams have off days on the 24th of May (that's 10 days away) and the Nats will be traveling to SF after playing the birds at home while the Rockies will be home for their series against Arizona. The Nats could stop in and play a game that afternoon.

He's clearly not comfortable in the 3 hole.
