i like garcia in the pen.  Our pen looked like a joke in a lot of the nlds games and I like having a lockdown guy in there like Garcia.

I've always considered Meyer a reliever

Maybe Meyer is the power arm for the pen we're talking about for our wish list?

I don't know why anyone would want to cap Meyer's value by making him a RP. Let his role be defined organically. Either he'll make it as a starter or he won't. No need to push him to the pen.

I'm not. But honestly if he can't develop an effective third pitch he's a number 5 pitcher in the rotation. If he develops it, fine. If not, he'd still be great in relief. Just looks what type Cards pen did to our hitters

Where have you heard he's having trouble developing a third pitch?

He has a fastball and a slider. I've seen his change up. It comes out a different arm angle and it doesn't move. It gets crushed.

No to moving Garcia as a starter and No to trading away the farm for one starter. We've already done that for Gio. Signing a guy would be so much easier.

Morse, Rendon, Lombo, Purke for Price. Move Detwiler back to the pen. Garcia up full time.

Why the F would you move Detwiler back to the pen?

Statistically, Detwiler and Lannan (2011) were about the same. Similar records, strikeout rates, ground ball rates, HR rates, ERA, FIP, wins, ect. The only real difference between them is their walk rate. Lannan's is higher.

Detwiler as a reliever though was a lot better. Higher strikeout rate. More velocity. Still maintained his GB rate. He would also give us another reliever that could go a couple innings if necessary and could spot start when needed.

Price
Strasburg
Gio
JZ
Lannan

Storen
Clippard
Detwiler
Garcia
Burnett
Stammen
Mattheus
Gorzo

Heck of a bullpen. Maybe the best rotation in baseball.

Ross isn't close to the same pitcher he was in 2011.  Moving him back to the bullpen after the season he had would be awful.

I was comparing this year's Detwiler to 2011 Lannan. They're quite similar.

His season was okay ... for a number 5. But it was really nothing special. He's by far the most replaceable pitcher we have.

Lol okay. I hope we have a not real dynasty like them. Would be nice to have a world series shot every year for a decade.

Of all the pitchers you mentioned, Madson is the only one who might sign a one year deal. And he will get a shot with a team that needs a closer instead of as a 7th inning guy

Yjay's us.

Valverde was perfect in saves last year. He also has been a solid closer for about 5 years.

Drew Storen is 25 and you're a dope.

I'd be surprised if any big moves are made. Seems like a stay-the-course offseason to me.
