My Nexus 7 (1GEN) officially sucks now.

Someone, give me the first step to rooting it and installing this. My N7 is for all intents and purposes a brick now.

Won't turn on at all?  If it still turns on, but is just slow:

http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install

If not, and you can get it into the bootloader, you can use WugFresh Toolkit.

if these survive for another generation or two, I may make the jump, but I'd want to see that first

Thanks. After I typed my note, I actually figured out the first step... Google "cyanogenmod". :)

I'll start on this tonight.

FYI, it turns on, it's just non-responsive half the time, locks up, reboots on its own, etc.

The Nexus 9 "volantis" factory images are up.  Still waiting on one for the old N7 and my N5.

I like my LG G Flex but I'm thinking about upgrading around February. Any suggestions on what will be out or coming out that will be better? Significantly better that is. FWIW, I had a Windows Phone and liked it pretty well, so I thought about the Nokia 1520 also.

You don't need to root if you're installing CM.  It's pre-rooted.

Shrug, my gen one is the best phone I've ever owned easy. Smokes my Nexus 4, even considering I jumped from an awful Samsung Charge.  :hysterical: Yes there is a real upgrade going from Vanilla Android to CyanogenMod IMO.

Lots of risk (lack of support), but reaping the rewards of a great phone for half the price of comparable phones.  :D

Freaking missed out on Nexus 9 being sold at half price today by HTC. Where is this thread when you need it? Nexus 9 on day two at $200 = impulse buy if I had seen it in time.

Checked Feedly at like 2 (usually read it with breakfast) and was pretty pissed at what I had missed.

I love my nexus 5- don't plan on dumping it anytime soon.

I mean that's cool. I like the Nexus line also. At least until the flagship Nexus 6.

The OPO is a stronger device than a Nexus 5 obviously, but they are a full year apart. Not sure I'm quite on a yearly upgrade cycle myself, haha.

Shows what happens when you make assumptions. You waste time.
