Doesn't matter if he's dead set to play for his childhood team.  He's a Nat for years at least.

Now wait a second. Yankees are his favorite team, but he never said he intends to play there. If Washington offers him the deal and builds around him I would think he would take it. He should be a lifetime Nat

Harper, according to the article I linked, is considered a crucial boost to an injury-ravaged, first place team.  You have to wonder where we'd be without him.  He says he misses Werth who helped him with the outfield and base-running and facing pitchers.

You know what's crazy? We have two of the most hyped prospects in the last 30 years (possibly ever) in Strasburg and Harper and, so far, both have lived up to the hype. Strasburg is one of the best pitchers in baseball in just his second season and Harper, at 19, is one of our best players and is hitting better than previous 19-year-old superstars.

It's great to be a Nats fan.

I have a friend who is a Cubs fan who is too jealous to describe.

Good post & true.

Do you think he stays a national for a long-term contract? (anyone else feel free to weigh in here)

I got crap for saying this preseason.

I still stand by that mindset.

The future is ultra bright and today ain't half bad!

I want to know the odds we have of honestly keeping him a Nat his entire career

The entire career thing isn't realistic. Look at the best player of the last 10 years: Albert Pujols. He brought St. Louis 10 amazing seasons and 2 World Series titles, and then he went to Anaheim. Or look at a guy like Ken Griffey, with the (trade) interlude in Cincy. Even if we signed Harper through age 32 and won three titles with him, that doesn't mean we will (or should) keep him to age 42. How many players are like that? Since I was born, only Cal Ripken and Mariano Rivera. No-one else.

Could we keep him until 31 or 32 then

Harper is on the cover of the Express newspaper today.  STRAS is on the cover of Sports Weekly!

who knows- if he meets his potential, we probably couldn't keep him if he decided to test free agency, but if he is willing, I'm sure they'll make every effort to extend him

Konerko came up as a Dodger and also played for the Reds.

Edit: I sound like an ass correcting people. So I'll stop.

I didn't put Bagwell in with Biggio because I wasn't sure if he had played with Boston before being traded as a minor leaguer.  That, and I was afraid to incur the wrath of linty.

Bagwell was stuck in AA behind Wade Boggs, Future All Star and Boggs heir Scott Cooper, and had Mo Vaughn blocking him at 1st.
