Damn, 97

Gameday is slightly lower, but I'd say corroborating those high velocities,  Wow.

Clippard the win, Storen the save

It's like 2010 all over again.

It's a well earned split of the series.  Why do I still feel dirty?

I think they draw it up that way in the pen. Or at least, Lannan probably thinks they do. Must be fun to mess with him about it.

Storen looked in command that whole inning. Other pitchers looked like they threw and hoped nothing terrible happened. Storen just seemed eager to rip into the Rockies.

Huge W honestly. A split on the road is great. Now we go to Chicago, and I know they've been playing well recently but we should be able to take 2 of 3, which is huge because we play Philly next, lol

Probably doesn't take much... Lannan seems like he's always moping.

Series win at Philly would be awesome.

Nats got a series from 'em earlier.  Spanked Cliff Lee and should have spanked Halladay. Why not?

We need to get rid of Livo

I have a hunch that Livo will pitch well in his next game. Every time you think he's finished, he just sneaks back and throws stuff that leaves the other team missing.

And if not, well, I don't know who else the've got unless it's time for Gorzo II. Syracuse has that kid who throws 82mph that nobody can hit, but then it's Craig Stammen and other guys from '09 and '10. Matt Chico?

The whole concept seems counterintuitive to me.

The Rocks are more likely to string a few singles together than to double their way to a run.

The Rockies have a 2B rate of about 5% this year, and a 1B rate of about 17%. The odds, then, of them hitting two singles straight are about 3%. Thus, a double is more likely.

What this is ignoring is the fact that "no doubles" tend to turn a lot of hits that would be outs into singles.  The calculation would have to be redone to factor this in.  Either way, it's a complex calculation that I doubt the managers undertake each time they're going to try something like this.  My suspicion is that they just go with their guts.

And in turn, the double rate would go down. I was basing those off of normal situations, but again, I would not think that those two would have a significant effect on the percentages because they approximately cancel each other out.

You might not think that, but we don't really know.  That's why FieldFX is going to be so great--we'll actually be able to analyze the effect that different fielding configurations have on the game, instead of just speculating about it.
