What does Riggleman expect to happen when he puts a lineup out there like today? For them to luck into a run or two? Surely he can't expect to win the game putting that crap out there.

Lohse is breezing through this game. Should go at least 8, maybe complete.

If he goes a complete game, we'll get some more opportunities to score.

A full count against the pitcher? Thanks for striking him out, but why on a 3-2 pitch?

You really think Neal Huntington is any better than Mike Rizzo?
He has Scott Olsen, Joe Beimel, and Joel Hanrahan on his team currently. To his defense, he has a much smaller payroll to work with, but I just don't agree that he's much better than Rizzo.

Yes I do.

He constantly works the international market to find talent to sign... and not 28 year old Cuban imports, I'm talking 16 year olds with real talent.

Hired Clint Hurdle to manage the club, a real leader in the clubhouse that can mold the young talent into contention.

He also picked up James McDonald for Octavio Dotel. The man is a genius and is turning the Pirates around, quickly.

lol, uhhh

You mean the same Clint Hurdle that the Rockies quit on in 2009, and then immediately started playing better for Jim Tracy?  That Clint Hurdle?  What a LEADER.

I guess we'll find out one way or another.
I feel bad for Pirates fans, they deserve to follow a team that finishes at or above .500.

Even the ump wants Gorzelanny to throw more strikes.

Hell, the Pirates went to India to hold a competition to sign two kids who could throw the hardest and most consistent strikes.

He'll do anything to try and find talent.

In the next five years, there will be a book on Huntington and the Pirates organization he built from the ground up.

Book it.

He works best with young players... which the Pirates have a plenty.

This is what Gorz does.  He throws a ton of pitches every inning.

How many times has Nick Punto walked twice in one game?

Gorzo has walked someone every inning.
Little Nicky has been good at drawing walks for a long time.  Career 9.9%.  makes up for his noodle bat.

Nats still only team in baseball to have a starter go at least 5 innings in every game this season. :?

Too bad the offense sucks.

Streak still alive
Other than one bad pitch to Holliday and going way too deep into counts, he really wasn't that bad today.

It won't line-up. The pitching will be coming into its own at the same time as McCutchen, Alverez, Tabata, and Walker are hitting free agency. The Pirates are turing it around at the same speed as they were five years ago with the great young core of Duke, Bay, Nady, and McLouth.

This sounds like a good idea to me. It might take a few repetitions to pan out but I suspect there is overlooked talent out that a savvy, innovative team could harvest.

Yea, dont understand the Gorzy hate.  A solid start, albeit one w too many walks, one pitch he really wants back.  Bats need to wake up.  I feel like we'll get a chance in the next four innings.

If you looked at that stat you would figure we would be at least 5+ games over .500.

Instead we will be merely .500 after today. :? Awful
