Ironically, there were no "official" errors in the inning ... but it started off with a walk, then a pop up to Logan who lost it in the sun/twighlight, whatever, 2 men on, 0 outs, then a pop up to left that Guz and Church let drop in between them, 3 men on, 0 outs, then a strikeout, then a hit, then a hit, then a hit to Zim he threw wide of the bag at 2nd, then a sac fly, then the pitcher got a hit, then a fly out ... horrendous ... 6-0 ...

This sounds dead accurate.  Speigner should have a shutout going. (And Don Sutton just said this.)Although the lead off walk was incompetent, we couldn't ask much more of him.  After Logan's flub, every fielder needed to FOCUS.  But what happens?  I would have rather seen Guz and Church COLLIDE than let it drop, like a couple of weenie-morons.  I think Speigner lost hope when he started giving up the hits.  Glad St Claire talked to him after that inning.

OUR HITTERS NEED TO RALLY, GET SPEIGNER THE WIN, and the city should hold a parade for him.

Optimistic observation #1: except for that first inning, the Nats are really outhitting the Padres

Do you realize that Speigner would have a one hitter going into the 5th inning?? ... It really is a shame what happened in the first ...

Yes, the defense was pathetic but Speigner was equally as awful.  Lead-off walks always equal runs and then from there on he was just tossing BP.  He even let the pitcher get a hit off of him which cost the Nats 2 more runs.  If I never see Speigner pitch again it will be too soon.

You can't give a major league team 7 outs in an inning ... the fact is - Speigner did enough in the beginning to get out of that inning with no damage ... he has to be incredibly demoralizing to still be pitching when you should be sitting in the dugout ...

Crap, the bottom of the innings are just whizzing by with absolutely no show of strength from us.

See, the D-man hits it well, and the damn pitcher's foot deflects it. That's our Nationals' luck.

I agree.  He's even said he's been hurting the team.  When he sees that the fielders are just quitting, at the START of the game, it's easy for him to give up, lose focus and begin pitching batting practice.  We now have 2 hits after 4 innings.  They should be ashamed of themselves.

I swear, Speigner's like Job ... his last outing - the ump blew a clear strike three that would have gotten him out of the first with no damage then Dimitri's gafffe cost 4 runs in the 4th ...  6 runs that never should have happened ... brutal ...

Wow, 6-0. Bummer. L.S. is an automatic loss. I don't know why you guys are blaming the defense, from what I see we haven't committed a single error.

By the way, we just can't get over the 9 game under hump. We've been stuck on 9 games numerous times in the past 2 weeks, and always go back to 10 games under.

man, the offense sucks.  I hope they don't let Wells own them tomorrow.  5 innings and not a sniff of a run against Justin Germano.
Tomorrow I would start:
Guzman SS
Belliard 2B
Zim 3B
Young 1B
Kearns RF
Church LF
Flores C
Logan CF
Simontacchi P

Just imagine if we had just Hill or Berg or Patterson not even all 3, we would be nearing .500.  L.S. has cost us 4 straight games.
