Even if it does, the system is still broken.

Part of me wonders if it's just a function of being a sport where one player dominates- look at Cleveland before and after Lebron, look at Miami before him (yes they won with Shaq, but they were not very good after that), think about OKC if Portland drafts Durant, think about the lakers if they didn't draft kobe... There are only so many of those guys to go around, so there never really can be parity

There ccan't be parity, but the system allows for those few to join up and play on the same team because there is a cap on individual salaries.  If Miami or LA can offer 20 mil a year and Milwaukee is offering that same 20 mil, where are the Lebron James type players going to sign?  Milwaukee is stuck with whatever near-star player they can get - and they have to overpay for that player, setting them even further back.

But Stern is happy with Boston, NY, Miami, LA, and a couple of upstarts fighting for the titles every year.

Right on cue, the Wizards cut Pargo and sign Shaun Livingston.  Deck chairs on the Titanic.

Damn, I miss my Bullets.    Gus Johnson, Jack Marin, Monroe, Unseld, EEEEE, Riordan   ...   etc.     What have they done to our team?

It's true, at least they try.  It's better than watching Blatche and McGee and Young out there.  The guys currently on the Wiz just aren't good enough.  Can't shoot and can't rebound.  What exactly does Vesely do well?  Okafor and Booker had 15 points and 10 rebounds.  The starting big guys for the Mavs, Kaman and Brand, had 34 and 20.  So they cna't outscore them, outrebound them, or defend them - what exactly are they good for?  Seraphin is the only 4/5 with any hope of competing, even against guys that many consider to be washed up.

The two highest draft picks currently playing, Vesely and Beal, look terrible right now.  Beal at least has some hope.  The Mavs rookie 2nd round Jae Crowder had a much better game than the very highly paid Ariza who appears also to be good at something other than scoring, rebounding, or defending - what exactly, I'm not sure.

End rant.

Vesely must play good d or something. They came back with him in there last night. He does seem to take charges more than others. I have no stats to back this up and limited viewing. Beal is appatently a shooter who can't...shoot. He misses everything. Same size hoop and ball as hs and college. I dont know what his problem is

Top ten pick on a guy whose best attribute is taking charges?

Anyone else watching this atrocity?  Fell behind by about 20 points very early in the first quarter.  Still can't shoot, rebound, or defend very well.  The rookies can't play and the vets can't play.  Shooters can't shoot, rebounders can't rebound.  Point guards can't pass.  The coach looks hilariously exasperated.

Announced attendance last night was 14,426 but the arena was actually half full at best. We're having such trouble drawing fans these days (except for the Student Rush on Wednesdays and Fridays, which at least on the one showing thus far remains well-subscribed) that if you have a 400-level ticket you can go to the ticket window across from section 433 and 'upgrade' your seat (haven't tried it myself but it's been available for at least the last two home matches).

There just seems to be an air of resignation about the team - no Wall, no Nene so what can we do but follow either of two tried-and-true formulas:

(1) get way behind early (like last night), pour on the effort in the second half and still come up a day late and 63p short; or

(2) get a big lead early (like vs Utah this past Saturday) and fritter it away, coming up a day late and 63p short.

About the only positive is that they're keeping more 400-level concessions open than has been usual at non-sellout Wizards matchnights - I guess that's how Monumental is avoiding layoffs of catering staff while the Capitals remain idle.

Was nice to see Beal have a good game.  Livingston is miles and miles better than Pargo.

I believe Okafor took 4 shots and had 3 of them blocked.  Finished with one point and one rebound.  $10 mil a year does not buy what it used to, I suppose.

He's better than Price, too. He actually knows how to run an offense.

Beal was more aggressive last night. Good to see.

Am I the only one who thinks Ted Leonsis is an awful owner?  Anyone who knows anything about basketball will tell you that Ernie Grunfeld is an awful GM and Randy Wittman is an awful coach, yet he kept them both.

I don't get it.

I don't think Wittman is that bad.  Ted is still new and learning.  He does seem to be tone deaf, though.  I don't know why he doesn't change the name back to Bullets like most fans want.  Seems like he could earn some good will that way.  With the crap they are throwing out on the court these days, the team could use some good will from the fans.

Grunfeld is Grunturdible.  Crappy trade after crappy trade.  Bad signing after bad signing.  Bad draft pick after bad draft pick.

Here's a fun question, who's the better euro 7 footer in town, Alex Len or Jan? Ernie is awful in the draft and worse in trades. Wittman is a place holder who gets to deal with the crap ernie assembles

They may take this one.

Nene is a good player - there was never any doubt about that.  But they need him to stay healthy in a way he hasn't really done in the past with any real consistency.  And he's not getting any younger - I think he's 30.

it will really suck when the Wizards lose 70 games this year and fail to win the draft lottery.

it's not a very good draft anyways.  The top 3 players are 2 centers and a SG.  We just drafted beal so we won't take shabazz and Nene would block Noel or Zeller.  I could see Ernie trading down.

He is 3-14 from the field but you are right - they wouldn't be in this game without his 15 rebounds and hustle.

It's amazing the difference Nene has made.
