Also on tap for tonight in the NL East - just one match:

Travel day for Marlins and Mets - they open a three-match series at Schiti Field tomorrow

When does Guzman go to RF?

And Berkman swung, dammit!

If we don't sweep this series then someone needs to be fired.

Dallas Keuchel is the worst starter in baseball.

Has given up 22 runs over last 4 starts (0-4) with 16 BBs to 6 Ks. Even his minor league numbers are terrible. Gotta pick up this win tonight, Edwin needs to be simply good.

Dallas Keuchel is the worst starter in baseball.
He was Arkansas's Sunday starter back in the day behind Nick Schmidt and Jess Todd. He isn't a high level prospect and Houston is a bad situation.

ATLANTA – The Astros acquired Houston native Garrett Mock from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for future considerations.

Mock, who went to North Shore High School and the University of Houston, will report to Class AAA Oklahoma City. He had been pitching for the Red Sox’ Class AAA club in Pawtucket, which announced the trade. Mock had a 3.33 ERA in 35 appearances this year for the PawSox.

Going to say that for every series ?

Anyways great time to distance ourselves from Atlanta and closer to the Reds in the standings.

Though this is the start of a stretch of some awfully late games. The DVR will be my friend.

Were the "check swing" and "Guzman outfield error" the same game? I just remember that series being the one that dimmed all hope I had for a good 2010. Shortly after we brought up Strasburg but it was all over by then.

The 'check swing' was Game 2 and the 'Guzman error' was Game 4 of this four-match series (Nats won Game 1, the Astros the other three):

We all did.  25-20 start, why not have some optimism?

I will say this about the 2010 team: they were the beginning of the turnaround and felt like the first actual ML team in DC since at least '06.

If memory serves me right, we lost 5 in a row at that point, went down to Houston, took game one, and atleast I thought we would take 3 of 4, mash the Pirates, and soon enough Strasburg would be starting and we would make a run at .500.

I was wrong.

I looked at the 2010 Gameday threads and identified the problem: for some reason I didn't start the GDTs during that Astros series.

20-15 actually (full results: http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/schedule/_/name/wsh/year/2010/half/1/washington-nationals); in fact, the first match of that Astros away series (a 14-4 Nats win) would be the last time that season that the Nats would be at .500 (26-26).

Actually, we were both wrong.  The Nats were 20-15, not 25-20.  Still good.  They got to that point with a game 1 win in Colorado to start a 4-game series, then proceeded to lose the next three.  They lost the next 2 in STL to make it 5 straight losses.  They had a .500 homestand after that (capped off with a dramatic tenth-inning walkoff HR for Josh Willingham, damn I miss that guy), only to go on the west coast and drop 2 series against SD and SF.

The series after that was against Houston, and yep, they crapped the bed.  They came home, Stras debuted, and the Nats swept the Pirates.  It looked like there was hope as they got within a game of .500 at that point, but little did any of us know that they wouldn't sniff .500 again that season even with St. Stephen in the fold.

It hurt that pretty much everyone else in the rotation turned into pumpkins.  Olsen, Atilano, and even Livo started struggling after decent-to-awesome starts to the year.  The rest of our starts were comprised of things like a debuting Yunesky Maya :spaz:, a still-recovering Jordan Zimmermann (by far his worst season/stint), and a befuddled John Lannan.

There are certain places where the Nats just have demons.  Colorado, Houston, and before recently San Diego have been some of the worst.

That's cause it's a crap hole. They can't move to the AL soon enough

Remember that fat heckler Bubba dude right behind the Nats dugout who ended up getting tossed?

Living the stereotype.
