FP on the pitcher hitting...there's switch hitters and there's switch batters. You can stand and pretend to hit.

It's all about TV and if you had to invent a sport for TV, it would be football. There's even a 30 second break between plays so you can replay.

amazing they can squeeze so much entertainment out of about 11 minutes of action per game.

No offense to young folks, especially not those here, but I think the plethora of technology entertainment options and endless programming choices support short attention spans.

 :old:

I get into this with some of the young guys at work.   I tell 'em, "You'll sit there and watch football game that si 21-7 with 11 minutes of real action in 3 hours.    But you think a 3 hour baselball game that ends 3-1 is boring."

Watching football on tv is crap:

The quarterback throws the ball and you have zero idea what's going on down the field. Cheap thrills for adrenaline junkies.

I find it hard to blame the people. MLB abandoned this area and let baseball decline. It seems like places with long standing teams do a lot better across all the age ranges.

I can't believe kids will wait through the NFL's incessantly lengthy commercial breaks.

Yeah, I agree, to the point that I was ready to type out a coladar-esque post about younger people, but this isn't really the place for that.

It's all about TV and if you had to invent a sport for TV, it would be football. There's even a 30 second break between plays so you can replay.

Basketball is better on TV unless you can get very close seats. And who can afford those.

Baseball on the other hand is better in person, IMO.

And so is hockey.

This is true.  Baseball and hockey in person gives you a much better idea of all that's going on in the game.

But I do love watching on TV these days when you can see stuff like pitchtrax. :mg:

JZimm reminds of David Cone, who came up on the DJ Mets. Anyone remember him.

JZ even looks like him a bit.

Was on the tail end of his career, and still pitched remarkably, around when I started watching baseball (late 90's).

Guy next to me last week at the Nats game had an IPad with all kinds of pitch tracking going on. My wife just kept laughing at him every time she looked over there. I, of course, was very fascinated.

Not the first time, either.  Bet that's never happened during an Orioles broadcast.  Just sayin'...
