Oh yeah?  Well I bet spidernat would not approve of the tomterp family (circa 1972) appropriating my dad's football to play in the yard.  Only problem was, it was signed by Sonny Jurgenson, Charlie Taylor, Billy Kilmer, and about 30 other Redskins of the era.  Within a day all the signatures were totally gone.    <wide-eyed shock>    Undecided     Embarrassed     icon_frown

I bet spidernat would've been the first to propose the idea of using said football if it meant there would've been no game without it. The only problem being that if it had been my father's football I may have been a little more hesitant to cross that line.   :?   I've never been crazy about autographs (especially if it stood in the way of a game). This chick gave me an autographed picture of Charley Taylor (addressed to me) mistakenly thinking it would score her big points and prolong the two-week-stand I had in mind but that crap didn't mean anything to me. It collected dust for years and I don't even know where it is now. I probably tossed it in the trash already. I almost gave it to a kid once except it had my name on it. Autographs are only useful on a check.

No football, no game.  Dad had two autographed footballs, one was by his high school team (he was the principal) and the other by the Redskins, he had won it in a raffle.  He tossed us the 'skins one.  In hindsight, I'd rather have scrimped and saved (or convinced dad to buy us a new one) instead of the instant gratification that was our backyard game.   I don't even remember who won.

You mean your dad actually signed off on the move?   My father would not have done that. I thought you meant you guys went behind his back to get the football.

No, we were good kids, we asked permission.  :halo: Of course, we were stupid as hell kids  :stupid:, but well behaved (so far as my parents know ) nonetheless.

it's looking like a 100 loss season is our fate.

hopefully Martis can bounce back from getting shelled by the Mets.

i predict a Dukes bomb off Olsen.

so who is cheering for us to win to avoid 100 losses and because they love this team ... and who is cheering for us to lose the rest of the way so we still have a shot at strasburg?

I just want us to beat the Marlins.. at least once. They've owned us so bad this year.

I'd also like to see Martis rebound from his last start.

What if Strasburg is a bust or injures his arm? That one pick is not going to magically change this franchise. He won't even make an impact before 2010 anyway.

Not necessarily. He could be another Zimmerman and be up for good by August or September. There are other sick college prospects too though. Wherever we end up picking I think we are going to end up with a franchise player that is going to be a stud pretty soon unlike Detwiler who is taking a longer time.

That's a long shot not a guarantee. It will be fun for the minor league crazies though.

Don't get me wrong sportsfan, at this point we might as well have the number 1 pick. It's better than the 2nd or 3rd pick and we need all the help we can get.

You don't think it's possible that we could draft another Zimmerman-like player that is ready almost right away? I'd say we are definitely going to draft a college guy.

You act like Zimmerman was Mantle-like, Musial-like or Williams-like. I'm still not sold on Zimmerman being what most people here seem to think he is. Besides, unless Strasburg is Dwight Gooden-like he won't be contributing the way people think anytime soon.

I was just bringing up Zimmerman because of how quickly he made it to the Majors. It just shows how important your draft picks really are. Whether some will admit it or not, not signing Crow was a big set-back.

Zim says "Take that, Spidernat!"
