The shaved ice line was a quarter mile long, I hadn't seen those before, huge portions.

Never should have sat him... he was playing fine with the injury... only got worse when he sat and rested it.

Say what? Dr linty diagnosis.

during the ASB?  Not much he could have done about that.

Great atmosphere at the game today. Zimmerman, Morse, Espinosa, and Bernadina are all in their zones right now which is good to see. I love Danny at SS he's so smooth. Another great outing for Det as well.

He could have played through it, and played in the All-Star game.

He said it tightened up when he started to rest it, rather than get better.

Clearly he was doing ok with it... if he's been feeling it since April.

How do you figure?

Had we won Friday, we'd be up 4.5 games... we didn't, so we still sit at 3.5 games up.

Where is that?

The gelato line straight back in center (on the socreboard level) was also very long.  But it moved fairly quickly.   Took about 15 minutes i guess.

Was at the game today.  As described by others, the atmosphere was great - large crowd very into the game.  Zimmerman was fabulous, Detwiler was sensational, and everyone up and down the line-up put on a show.  I loved walking Bernadina to get to Leon and Leon getting a big hit!  I am so glad the Nats didn't suffer from that terrible loss on Friday.  The Braves leave town in exactly the same position they came in with.  This was one game where the outcome never seemed in doubt and that's a good feeling!

I went to school with the guy that owns the gelato stands and now all the sweets at Nats Park as he bought all of them last year.

Yeah, maybe, but it tightened up during the ASB.  It was probably a time bomb more than anything.  Hopefully he can get healed up in time for the post season.

We can both agree on your last point.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 55th win, each season:

2012 - 22nd July (94th match of season)
2005 - 23rd July (98th match)
2011 - 7th August (114th match)
2007 - 15th August (120th match)
2006 - 25th August (128th match)
2010 - 28th August (130th match)
2008 - 6th September (143rd match)
2009 - 30th September (158th match)

---

TODAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Friday 22nd July 2012, Roger Clemens was the starter for the Astros, but his team didn't really need him as his mates rolled to a 14-1 massacre of the Nats at RFK...record now 54-43...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250722120

---

Still too many Braves fans in the house, but at least our lads shut them up early.

Pilsner Urquell looks like it's here to stay on the Scoreboard Walk...meanwhile, the vendor with the Amstel/Heineken/Stella, a regular on this homestand, visited my section twice today for the second straight day.

This is where the 2012 Nats are going to start getting a lot of separation from the '05 club.  The '05 Nats went on a really big swoon after this point of the season.

5.5 games up because the Braves would also have lost.  Every game in this series was a two game swing.

I think every game in this series is a full game swing (as opposed to half game changes). I don't think it's any different than if we win and a team we aren't playing loses.

So if we played the Braves the first game of the season and won, we would be 1-0, they would be 0-1, and they would be 2 games back?

No. It's still a one game swing. Lol.

We wouldn't have magically been up 5.5 games after Friday's game.

time for a math lesson.  This one is easy.

Current standings:
Nats         55- 39
Braves     52-43   (3.5 GB)

Had we won on more game AND LOST ONE FEWER:  56-38
had the Braves lost one more AND WON ONE FEWER:  51-44 (5.5 GB)

any questions?

3.5 game lead before Friday

If we won Friday, it would have been 4.5
Saturday's Game 1 loss would have brought it back to 3.5
Saturday's Game 2 win would have made 4.5
Today's win would have been 5.5
