Smoltz (1-1, 3.15 ERA) pitched two-hit shutout ball through seven innings at home against Washington last Thursday, but the Nationals scored against him twice in the eighth for the only runs of their 2-0 victory. Smoltz suffered the loss despite holding his opponent to three runs or fewer for his seventh straight start, dating to last September.

Jerome Williams (0-2, 4.91) will get the start for Washington. The right-hander took the loss at Atlanta last Wednesday, when he allowed two runs in five innings of an 8-3 Nationals defeat. He has not received any runs of support during either of his outings this season.

Williams is 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA in four career starts against the Braves.

Since I can't really consider a 2 game series a sweep, ill define it as a dusting. So, Go Nationals and dust the Braves!

I really don't see any way we pull this one out.  Smoltz should shut us down again and our starters are long overdue to get shelled.  I have a feeling Williams will get knocked out early.  It will be awesome if we win but I'm content with splitting the series.

I am such a genius... Williams is getting rocked just like I predicted.  The Nats will be very lucky not to lose by 5+ runs tonight

I should have played the lottery.. 3 straight hits for the Braves.  This is exactly how I envisioned this game.  Jerome might pitch 2-3 innings before Speigner comes in.

Make that 4 straight hits.. Speigner might be in sooner than I expected.  It was only a matter of time before one of our starters got annihilated.

do we have any one else who can pitch 2nite or should we just assume that we're 4-10 and let him go 5 or 6 innings give up 20 hits and 14 earned runs?

LMAO.. Good old Jerome.  Yank him Manny, not that Speigner can do any better though.  When is Simmontachi coming off the DL?

Historically the Nats have done pretty well against Smoltz so I don't consider this an automatic loss.  I agree that Williams is probably not going to help our cause much though, as he is already proving in the first :?

He'll pitch 2-3 innings and then we'll bring in Speigner in to throw 3-4.  Likely final score: 11-2

Edit:  WTF was Jerome thinking with that pitch to Francoeur?

WOW _ AN OUT!!! and the announcers are saying that was not a good 1-2 pitch. which lets me wonder ... is Randy St. Claire really a good pitching coach? i mean when a guy makes a really stupid 1-2 pitch, you got to wonder ...
