Well, I'm thinking that since they're 7-7 even if they get swept, it's hard to justify any feelings that they can't/won't contend this year even if they lose this series.

That wasn't really how I meant it but I can see how it came out that way.  I guess it's like Kevrock said, this is a team we should beat.

I understand where you're going with this, but if we get swept in a four game series at home by the Astros I think Chief's point is very relevant.

Reasonable expectation.  hard to sweep a four-game set and yet this is a team we should handle.  Anything less than 3-1 should be a disappointment - especially since we've got Stras, Znn, Gio and Jackson.

Game 3 is some nobody that most current Nats have never seen vs JZ.

On other hand, Wandy (game 2) is 5-1 against the Nats all-time.  With a terrible ERA, though.  My money's still on game 3.

Losing a four game home series to the Astros changes everything.

This has happened: in 2005 the Nats dropped 3 of 4 at home to the Astros (including a 14-1 pasting with Clemens starting - this was when they were on their way to what will now be the only NL pennant in their history). Since then it's gotten better - Nats have lost only one other home series to the Astros (dropped 2 of 3 in 2008) and are 14-9 all-time at home (6-5 at RFK, 8-4 at Nats Park) vs Houston.

I expect tonight's game to be much closer than we would like.  Coming off the back to back extra inning games and the awful calls last night, plus the fact that this is supposed to be relatively easy game, I expect Davey to preach patience and keeping loose at the plate.  Our bats will make a lot of contact, but we may not quite get all the breaks needed for a blow out.

Hopefully, this will be the beginning of the offence finding its groove.

Game 1 Final:  Nats 4 - Stros 2, Stras gets the W.

What if we get a 2-2 split? Expectations have changed, Nats fans won't tolerate it anymore.

We haven't had a laugher yet.  Hopefully it doesn't happen this series.

Also, this is the first game where we don't have a #1 vs #1, #2 vs. 2...pitching matchup.  This is our #1 against their #5 though for the rest of the series  theoretically, it switches to their favor starting tomorrow with their #1 against our #2.

This is the Astros. They have a #3 starter (Wandy) and four #5s.

We'd still be 9-5. That said, this is the Astros at home and we have momentum. I'd love to stay hot into our west coast road-trip (at which time I'll be asleep when the games start  )

Last year we were pretty hot and had a horrible series at Houston, that took the wind out of our sails, didn't we? Or am I imagining that?

I'd honestly take a laugher over an extra innings loss at this point.
