Columbus Clippers
« Topic Start: May 27, 2008, 06:18:07 PM »

Got a work trip to Dayton next month & Columbus is hosting Syracuse, only about an hour's drive.  June 10-11-12.   Anybody in the Columbus area?    $10 for the best seat in the house.   Gotta love that.

I have co-workers not far from Columbus.  There's also a minor league team in Dayton.  Catch both games.

They are called the Dayton Dragons.  Their Dragon mascot is called HEATER!

Yeah    that would have been ideal, but they're on the road that week, and they're not part of the Nationals' system, so it's Columbus.

Alternative is to drive to Cincy and see my old team, St Louis.  About the same drive, but much more expensive at the park.   I drove down there last year in May and saw the Reds host the Nats, the night Felipe hit the grand slam!

I thought about going to Columbus last year and I really would like to drive over there and see them...but it's a real long drive from the DC area and not worth it now with fuel prices.  Train's not an option either - they are the only large metropolitan city in the country that doesn't have Amtrak service.  They will be playing Richmond for the last time later this season...and I will catch them there like I did last year.

10 dollars? Really? NY-Penn league games can run 40 bucks for the best seats, not to mention the boxes.

Richmond Braves are the same: really cheap...but of course you're not getting much for your buck down there.  Part of the reason why they are gone after this season.

You're not kidding.  I've literally seen single A parks that were nicer.

It's a miniture version of RFK..complete with a concrete awning just like the old bowl in DC...it's just not convertable to football, because The Diamond is a cheaper rendition.  I wonder what minor league (not AAA) will have the misfortune of calling that mud hole home next (the drainage there is appalling)?  Apparently there has already been offers from some struggling clubs : low-A teams I believe.   :-[

I'll be in Ohio in July and will catch a Clippers game then. I can also see them when they come down here and play the Durham Bulls in Durham, NC.

When I was stationed at Newport News and then Norfolk we used to go to the Richmond Braves games all the time, a pal was shacked up with some girl up there who was pretty cool & would let us all crash at her place so we didn't have to drive 90 minutes home after the game.  We used to be able to sneak over a case of beer into the park with just 5 of us   :P    ahhhhh  those were the days.

Is anyone going to the Clippers games on Tuesday and/or Wednesday? I plan to be at both games.  Let me know if anyone wants to meet up and talk baseball.

I thought Richmond was going to build a new stadium?  Wouldn't Richmond be the natural home for the Nats AAA team?

He's got a serious injury that might require surgery.

In other injury news, Nationals left-hander Matt Chico was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., who confirmed that he has significant ossification of his ulnar collateral ligament and loose bodies in the back of his left throwing elbow. He recommended rest and rehab for the next six weeks.

Probably shouldn't let them smack each other in the ass with wet towels.
