I've got a couple of home improvement projects in progress, and all this rain the past few weeks has been challenging.

We tore down our deck, and replaced it with a screened in porch.  We replaced the siding, and all the trim boards, and are painting the house.  However, all the gutters are off awaiting painting of the trim boards (including those to which the gutters will be affixed) and so rain flows directly around the house, has a chance to accumulate and seep in a few places in the basement.

Yesterday, the sloping ground under the porch was excavated to be flat and put in drainage and a pea gravel base, but of course the rain comes before the work can be completed and I've got a muddy quagmire now.  Had to go out at 5:30 this morning and place tarps strategically to deflect all the roof runoff away from the pit.  Mud, mud, mud.

they are expecting 25' waves on Lake Michigan tonight into tomorrow morning.  Cue the story of the idiot surfer who got washed out.

there's a chance of snow west of D.C. on Saturday.   The current Euro model shows a dusting to an inch east of Route 123 in Fairfax, with 1-2" west until you hit the Shenandoah, where they'll get more.  The other models don't support snow coming that far east.

In Denver, where it hit 80 yesterday, they are calling for 6-10" of white stuff tomorrow.

Look out for a wild Saturday.  the models are all converging around the Euro's forecast of snow along and west of the I-95 corridor.  because trees still have leaves, there is a much greater chance of damage from any accumulating snow.

NAM model shows 4-8" of heavy wet snow in the dc area Saturday. But CWG says it doesn't believe the model.  Potential for thunder snow in the Phili-NYC area with up to 6".

Maybe those finely tuned running machines will get some mud in their gears and fall prey to a scrappy upcomer.

latest GFS model just echoed the NAM, this is going to be a big mid-atlantic storm, like last year Philly will be the center.

and the latest NAM shows 6-12" of snow from DC to NYC, with thundersnow.

This is getting interesting.  If we do get this kind of snow, it's going to be heavy and wet and sticking to trees that still have a lot of leaves, meaning widespread power outages as limbs break.

between the wind last night and the rain on its way sweeping and raking so that no tricker-treater breaks their ankle will be loads of fun
