THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: On Sunday 4th September 2005 at RFK, the Nats beat the Phillies 6-1 behind Esteban Loaiza's 11 strike-outs...record now 71-66...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250904120

----

The 83rd win by this year's Nats pushes them above the 82-win 1936 edition - here's where they stand, in terms of gross wins (I know it was a shorter season back then), with other winning Nats clubs:

99 - 1933 [pennant winner]
96 - 1925 [pennant winner]
94 - 1930
93 - 1932
92 - 1924 [World Series winner], 1931
91 - 1912
90 - 1913
87 - 1945
86 - 1969
85 - 1915, 1927
84 - 1943
83 - 2012
82 - 1936

---

Mystics lost last night (to division-leading Connecticut, 77-70 - more effort than before but still a loss).

---

...but good grief, only 17,648 in the house yesterday??? Our fourth-lowest turn-out this season?? I remember back in RFK days (2005-07) when the Cubs supporters just used to pour into the place - only the Mets brought bigger travelling support back then.

Nats' four lowest turn-outs this season to date:

17,648 - Tuesday 4th September vs Cubs
16,274 - Wednesday 2nd May vs Diamondbacks
16,245 - Monday 16th April vs Astros
14,520 - Wednesday 18th April vs Astros

We'll probably get a really thin turn-out Sunday...(1) it's the Marlins, always a poor draw here, and (2 - more important) it goes directly up against the Redskins season opener. (Lowest Sunday attendance in Nats history is 16,788 for the Marlins on 12th September 2010 - I could see that record falling.)

I have three school-age kids and there's no way I can get to a mid-week night game during the first couple weeks of school.  Luckily I have tickets to the businessman's special on Sept 24!

2012 Nats continue to trail the pace of the 1925 team, but follow closely. Old Nationals/Senators/Griffmen/Nats were 83 - 45 on September 5th, beating the Red Sox 7 - 6 for a pitcher named Win Ballou. Joe Judge did not start, Muddy Ruel got the day off, but otherwise the 1925 regular lineup was intact.
