Reds lose, Nats are two outs away from sole ownership of the best record in baseball.

The Nats had me clearing my schedule for 10/4 and 10/5, but pulled it out, sure would be nice to eliminate the Phillies tonight.

Phillies Wild Card elimination number is 2, and they are chasing the Cards for the #2 WC. Cards don't play tomorrow so even if Nats win, Philly can't be eliminated.

I want to know what Tom Boswell's back-of-the-napkin calculation for Nationals wins was prior to the season.

He said he couldn't believe it, then predicted a much lower number.  Anyone else remember this?  I might ask about it in his next chat.

I asked him on twitter tonight:

‏@dpm917
@ThomasBoswellWP ...so, what was the number on your little napkin formula in the spring?

‏@ThomasBoswellWP
@dpm917 Yes, it was 93. You got me. They just hit 94.

Awesome!  Beyond all reasonable prediction.  Dream season.  It's thanks to Harper's unprecedented season, I bet.

Why is the division number at 3?

Oops again, I'm slipping. I put the wrong number down to 3. The Nats number to beat the Giants is three because we hold the tiebreaker over them, which of course won't matter unless we win the division.

...meanwhile, the Nats' win last night was their 46th away win, tops in MLB.

I have never been as intense watching a baseball game as I was last night. I was practically melting down when Clipp was on the mound. I'm not sure I'm going to make it through October.

In fact, you can just skip the Maalox and go straight to liquor.

I think I chose the wrong time to be on the wagon.

My wife says I'm "too emotionally invested in the team." I say, "Duh."

So, it is 6 on the Reds, 4 on the Braves, and 3 on the Giants.  Those are the only 3 teams that matter, and the Giants don't matter unless we beat out the Braves.

Maybe for the Reds, surely for the Braves, and absolutely for the Giants.

Correct, except that the Reds don't matter either unless we beat out the Braves. We have the tiebreaker against both the Reds, Braves, and Giants, but a tie with the Braves would mean we play a tiebreaker game, so there is an extra game added on the magic number.

of course, Todd Frazier with a game-tying homer with 2 outs in the 9th vs Axford and the Brewers. :?

McCutchen gets injured vs Mets today. Would be hell if he is not in there vs the Braves next week. :hang:

Dioner Navarro follows a Jay Bruce walk with an RBI triple to give the Reds the win.

Same old awful Brewers' bullpen.

Giants and Reds win today, why does it seem like the Nats are the only one of the first place teams that ever losses a game?
