You would rather be in a division with Florida, Tampa, and Carolina as opposed to Pittsburgh, Philly, and New York? Maybe the division change will make this team tougher. This team used to play tough. They may not have been the best team in the league, but they showed up and played for 60 minutes.
+1000Hiding in what has generally been the weakest division in hockey (albeit with two Cups) where there are no natural rivalries and almost no genuine fan interest beyond the artificial crap the league tried to manufacture was a dumb failed experiment. The snowbirds make Florida and Tampa natural candidates for a pairing with the Leafs, Habs, and Ottawa...the "southeast regional rivalry" isn't, wasn't, and never will be.
+1One of the things (besides the "strike) that caused me to bail out on hockey and a member of a STH group was the realignment back when the Caps started playing FL teams. What a bunch of bullcrap. It was great to play the Pens, NY teams and Philly over and over. I can't wait for the Caps to join a real hockey division again.

I started watching hockey as a kid in the 80s when ESPN started carrying the NHL. I was hooked from that point on and absolutely hated seeing the Caps moved into the SE Division. I'm glad that the NHL had the sense to right a wrong. BTW, Kornheiser and Wilbon were discussing the NHL changes on PTI. The Caps were mentioned first and Kornheiser said they were returning to compete in a division against their blood rivals. I absolutely agree. As a matter of fact, I've already heard some smacktalk from some friends who are Rangers fans.

To me, the golden years were somewhere between the early 80s to the early 90s. Bettman started screwing with things and the game has changed significantly. I still love hockey, but it's not the game it was.

From what I've been hearing, he was close to be traded two games ago (hence the benching), then it died a bit, now the phones are going off again (San Jose). I was told that if he's benched tonight, it's about a 95% shot he's gone.
