gotta watch out for sodium and Bisphenol-A though. Everything in moderation . . .

Yep, and dried beans are about 1/4th the price of canned.

They're kind of chewy and dry, though.

You may want to soak them first but to each his own.

Speaking of legumes and such, it's pretty easy to find frozen black-eyed peas in the freezer section now. I plan to sautee some in peanut oil, tomato, garlic, and onion later this week because I didn't get my New Year's fix.

A couple years ago, I was driving up from Stuarts Draft to Dulles Airport, and the stop & go bumper to bumper traffic started in Aldie.  Such a shame.

How is the produce? The thing I hate most about winter is the crappy produce.

Don't buy anything at Aldi that isn't packaged, unless you like off-brand bananas from unusual countries.

Most everything is in a box, but they save a bundle by stocking off-brand or aldi brand. The Aldi brand stuff is high quality. It's a German chain, and you can tell. In Europe they carry steeply discounted electronics, too.

Tom, I don't consider between Chantilly and Middleburg the DC area :stir: , but some people are willing to drive like 40 miles for Aldi.

Lanham I could do.

NA, nice pun.

Tom gets the credit.  Aldie is a town about midway between Middleburg and Chantilly.

God I am slow today. But I can plead ignorance on the rural VA geography, not so much on the periodic table.

Oddly enough, there's an Aldi on Queenschapel near the NE DC and PG County line...Hyattsville area perhaps?  Dunno, just drive by it on the way to the College Park Ikea every now and then.  Not everyone will feel comfortable getting out of their car in that area, but it's an Aldi and it's pretty close in.

I've shopped at Aldi in Germany and Belgium, but not here (yet).  A friend who lives in rural Ireland has been gushing over the new Aldi by her village, so I guess they are pretty much everywhere by now.
