this was gio's third start and he was our big aquisition of the offseason. He's not Strasburg so he shouldn't be getting babied at all
As much as I would have liked to see Gio go eight, our bullpen isn't hugely taxed at the moment, it's a one-run game, and he was exhibiting a little (effective) wildness the last couple of innings. After three times through the lineup, a good reliever like Clippard is almost always a better option than the starter, even if his name's Halladay or Verlander. So I can understand Davey not wanting to take the chance.
