It seems like davey really doesn't trust Gio or Det late in games, which is total BS if you look at how theyv'e done so far this year.
Justin Verlander threw 131 pitches and his leyland stuck with him in a super tight jam in the bottom of the ninth.  Gio was in the low 90's in pitch count, looked great, and he is proven to be durable.  Gio earned it and Davey better give it to him next time.

131 pitches this season? That's insane for April if so.

It's early in the season still.

this was gio's third start and he was our big aquisition of the offseason.  He's not Strasburg so he shouldn't be getting babied at all

He was hitting his spots and hitting 100 on the gun in the 9th.  He wasn't showing any signs of fatigue.

As much as I would have liked to see Gio go eight, our bullpen isn't hugely taxed at the moment, it's a one-run game, and he was exhibiting a little (effective) wildness the last couple of innings.  After three times through the lineup, a good reliever like Clippard is almost always a better option than the starter, even if his name's Halladay or Verlander.  So I can understand Davey not wanting to take the chance.
