I'll preserve my idiocy and not correct the platoon idea.  Second L/R I've gotten wrong from memory.

I would not move for Gerut then.  He is not an upgrade over Harris.  He had 65 good at bats in 2008 v LHP, and that is it.  the rest of his career, he could not touch lefties.  He is not an every day guy.

Harris v RHP 2007 - 09 =  :az:  Remind me to rent "Platoon" again.

It appears that Willie's and Gerut careers are heading in opposite directions.

That's why I like Gerut btw.

Since he'd be on the right side of most matchups (he's left handed) he could be a full time guy for the Nats. He once was Rookie of the year... and he's had a very solid career up to this point.

Eh, based off his baseball-reference page he's nothing to write home about. Same type of player off the top of the trash heap, overhyped has been or never was that the Nats try to pass off as a position or two every year.

I wasn't going to nit pick but his baseball-reference page said he was 4th in ROY voting.  :icon_mrgreen:

No, you are not. his rookie year there were split ROY awards. Angel Berroa won one, Godzillila won another, and Gerut won a third. I think for Gerut it was sporting news.  But I'm doing this from memory.  And yes, I'm a former Gerut owner in fantasy.

I'd just throw Maxwell out there everyday until the All-Star break. Sink or swim but figure out whether this guy can ever be an asset for this franchise. Rolling out another 30 year old retread isn't going to close the talent gap.

Been saying this for a while. Nothing to lose. Morse and Taveras can't be leaps and bounds ahead of him.

Agreed. I love everything Maxwell brings to the table.

If only he can shorten his swing just a little bit.

He'd be perfect.

That is the "official" award as voted on by the BBWAA.

This is from his Wiki:

He had a spectacular rookie year in 2003, finishing in the top five in Rookie of the Year voting and winning the also-prestigious Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award.

Basically he won the equivalent of the WGA award for best picture.

Well like I said, I was only going off his baseball-reference page and what I found in an espn article as well. So he finished 4th in the AL ROY voting but he won Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award?

Regardless it doesn't really matter to me, bottom line after a casual glance at his career stats I'm not sure the guy really has much to offer for us. Would he be any worse than some of the garbage we've thrown out in RF the past couple years, probably not but he isn't going to help us take a step forward either.

Eh. I just love collecting ex-Indians.

That's pretty much where my love affair with Gerut ends.

As long as you don't want Manny back after he gets crap canned by them in a couple years, then it doesn't bother me.

Me too.  I mean he is the ideal guy for most of us fans and a lot of people in the organization.  Heckuva guy, plays hard and it seems he has the tools he just hasn't put it together.  I wouldn't say time is running out for him in the game, but he won't get many more opportunities as a starter.

Even though this isn't right field... sign Willingham for another year or so. We need an outfield competent of adding to the lineup. If we throw Maxwell and Harris out there every game its kind of pointless IMO when we could have someone that contributes alot more. Willingham for 2011 IN LF!!

For RF: Norris or a FA (Werth/Crawford  )

We need an everyday rightfielder ... badly.
